We are so proud to celebrate the Rev. Charles Graves IV, former Campus Missioner for Houston Canterbury, on earning his Master of Arts in Nonprofit Management from the University of Houston-Downtown! πŸŽ“

Charles recently shared this joyful moment from commencement with us, and we are grateful to celebrate alongside him.

Congratulations, Charles! May God continue to bless your ministry and leadership in the years ahead. πŸ‘πŸΎ

Finals Week at UHD πŸ“šβ˜•πŸ™

Today we gathered in Room N420 for coffee, pastries, conversation, and prayer during finals week. Students came in between exams β€” some stayed to talk, others took a quiet moment to breathe. There were words of encouragement, shared stories, and prayers offered for strength, healing, and peace. Students prayed for one another, and several shared that they felt lighter and encouraged as they prepared for their exams and the days ahead.

And the community didn’t end when students left the room.

Later on GroupMe, students continued encouraging one another β€” sharing about surgeries, fears, and recovery, and offering words of reassurance and support. It was a beautiful reminder that community doesn’t only happen in a room β€” it continues wherever people care for one another.

Moments like these remind us that campus ministry is not just about programs β€” it is about presence, community, and care.

Praying for all students during finals week β€” for clarity of mind, steady hearts, and deep peace.

You are always welcome here.

As finals begin, we hold our students in prayer.

If you are preparing for exams, working late, or feeling the pressure of this season, know that you are not alone. You are held in prayer, and your worth is greater than any grade or performance.

Take a moment to pause, breathe, and receive this prayer.

This Thursday during finals week, coffee and snacks will be available in Room N420 from 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. for anyone who needs encouragement or prayer.

Today we gathered for what will likely be our final full Food for the Soul of the semester at the University of Houston-Downtown.

The room was filled with laughter and conversation as students shared stories from their lives β€” reminders that community is built through time spent together.

Before we began our reflection, I thanked the students for showing up for one another throughout this semester and academic year. Mike, who will graduate in May, read the Gospel passage, and the reflection time that followed was filled with gratitude.

One student shared that she had walked past our room many times before deciding to join us. Today she described these gatherings as life giving and shared that she keeps the weekly leaflets because they help her reflect.

We reflected on the Emmaus story β€” people walking together, sharing a meal, and slowly recognizing hope along the way.

I am grateful for each student who showed up, helped prepare the space, and made this community what it is. Some students made extra effort to be present today, reminding me how meaningful this time together has become.

Next Thursday, during finals week, coffee and snacks will be available in Room N420 from 11:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. for anyone who needs encouragement or prayer.

Today at Food for the Soul at the University of Houston-Downtown, we continued the Easter story and reflected on Thomas β€” a disciple who struggled with doubt and questions before finding peace.

Our conversation today reminded us that faith doesn’t require perfection, and that questions are part of the journey.

Grateful for the students who stepped in to help carry food and prepare the space β€” even before I arrived β€” and for Dr. Paul Mandell, who joined us and helped guide thoughtful conversation and reflection.

Moments like these remind us that peace often grows in community, especially when we support one another.

All are welcome β€” bring a friend.

β€œI have seen the Lord.”

These were the words Mary Magdalene shared when she experienced hope after sorrow.

Today at Food for the Soul, we shared lunch, questions, and stories of strength and encouragement. One student spoke about finding unexpected strength in a difficult moment. Another reminded us that gratitude leads us to share hope with others.

Sometimes, when we pause, listen, and support one another, we begin to recognize signs of hope β€” and like Mary Magdalene, we share what we have experienced.

Grateful for the students who prepared the space, carried the food, and encouraged one another around the table.

All are welcome β€” bring a friend.
