Our Story
Welcome to Congregation Shaar Hashalom. We hope to meet you at a Shabbat Service in the near future!
Founded in the late 60’s as NASA’s Johnson Space Center was established in Houston, Congregation Shaar Hashalom (CSH) is the conservative congregation serving the Jewish community in the Clear Lake/Houston Bay Area and is affiliated with the United Synagogues of Conservative Judaism. Today our members come from all around the Houston Bay Area including Clear Lake, League City, Friendswood, Pearland, Dickinson, Seabrook.
We hold Shabbat services on Friday nights and Saturday mornings and also have services on most major Jewish holidays. At Shaar Hashalom, women and men participate equally in all aspects of synagogue life.
CSH is a place to worship, study, and socialize with fellow members of the Jewish community. Our primary goal is to support and strengthen Jewish religious, cultural and conduct social activities for members of all ages. Our religious school teaches Hebrew, religion, history and culture to our students. The synagogue also supports youth activities to keep our teenagers engaged. Our members participate in adult education classes and programs, support an active Sisterhood and Men's Club, and perform community service activities. For more than 25 years, Rabbi Stuart Federow has served as our rabbi. He is the spiritual leader of the congregation, teaches classes, provides counseling and presides over all life-cycle events. He is available to meet by appointment.
