Free Bible Correspondence Course

(This is not new. It is a pinned post above, but it doesn’t hurt to remind and offer again to newer members.)

I am offering a free Bible correspondence course through mail. All it will cost you is 1 stamp. I provide the rest during your study. Just mail your name and address to:

Houston, MS 38851

You can study at your own pace in the privacy of your own home. These lessons have gone out all over the country: TN, TX, AL, LA, WI, and all over the state of MS. There have been people who have studied these lessons and learned what to do to be saved the Bible way instead of man’s way (Acts 5:29). These lessons will strictly be from the Bible’s words. If there is something that you don’t understand about a lesson, please send a note back, and I will get you a Bible answer.

Also, if you have a question about the Bible or something that I write in an article, please send me a note, and I will respond.

Remember: it is no cost to learn the Bible (except for your request of the first lesson [one stamp]). I will furnish the stamps for each lesson thereafter.

The Holy Spirit (Ghost)

What is the Holy Spirit, and where did it come from? 2 Peter 1:21 ‘…they were moved by the Holy Ghost.’ Prophecy is God’s word and not the words of man (1 Corinthians 14:37-38). Some people think they know more than God. Verse 38 says “But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant.”

In 2 Timothy 3:16-17, everything we need is in the New Testament. The word we now have is perfect. In Acts 1:4-5, Jesus was telling the apostles to wait, not depart, but wait for the promise of the Father. In verse 5, Jesus said “…but ye shall be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days henceforth.” Verse 8 “but ye shall receive power after the Holy Ghost is come upon you…and ye shall be witnesses for Jesus.”

In Acts 2:1-4, the Holy Ghost appeared unto them. It was described as appearing unto them cloven tongues like as of fire. It sat upon each of the apostles. In verse 4, they began to speak in tongues as the Spirit gave them utterance. They could speak in all different languages. This was the Holy Ghost baptism. The only other time the Holy Ghost fell upon anyone was in Acts 10:44 when Peter was at Cornelius’ house. In Acts 2, we see that the Holy Ghost came down from heaven just as in Acts 10:44. There are no more recorded Holy Ghost baptisms in the New Testament.

2 Peter 1:21 “…holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” In Acts 2, God sent the promise down from heaven to the apostles. Now as we read and study the scriptures, we have the spirit in us. By having scripture, when we read and find ourselves wanting to study and learn more about God’s word, this is when the Spirit of God is working in us today. Ephesians 3:4-5 “Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit.” Now we can understand what the spirit is by studying the word. The Holy Spirit baptism served its purpose in the times of the apostles, but all mankind the world over has God’s word in their own language.

The baptism required for us today is found in 1 Peter 3:21 “The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

We Shall See Jesus

Please read: Revelation 22:1-4. We can look into someone’s face and see love, grief, happiness, sorrow, confidence, despair, courage, cowardness, pride, etc.

But, we shall see Jesus face to face. We cannot see a photo or picture of Jesus. The paintings of Jesus are of man’s thinking. Probably the reason we don’t have a painting of Jesus is because we might worship the picture.

In Revelation, John said ‘he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal’. Can you imagine such? In Matthew 17:1-2, on the mount of transfiguration, Jesus’ face did shine as the sun. Would you like to see that? Numbers 6:24-26 “the Lord bless thee, and keep thee: the Lord make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:…”

We are commanded to let His light shine in our hearts in 2 Corinthians. Sometimes it means more to speak to others face to face. God spoke to Moses face to face in Exodus 33:11. This says God spoke to Moses as a man speaks to his friend. Also read Genesis 33:10. It speaks about Esau and Jacob seeing each other after a long time.

We all wonder what God’s Son looks like. John 4:24 “God is a Spirit; and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” We were made in His image. 1 John 3:2 “Behold, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him: for we shall see him as he is.” Revelation 1:7-8 tells that we will know Him when He comes back after His church. How long will we be able to be in His presence? Will it be as a twinkling of an eye as stated in 1 Corinthians 15:52 or will we see Him for all of eternity? That’s something to think about. 2 Thessalonians 1:7-10 states that all will see Him, but it won’t be a pleasant visit for those who have not obeyed His word and for those that have turned their back on Him.

Saved Like the Thief on the Cross

Some say they want to be saved like the thief on the cross. That is impossible because when the thieves were on the crosses they were still under the old law. It was not until after Jesus’ death on the cross that baptism was commanded. (Matthew 28:18-20) Luke 23:39-43 tells when one of the malefactors (thieves) that was on the cross asked Jesus to remember him (verse 42). Then in verse 43, “And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.”

Jesus had power to forgive sins. When Jesus died on the cross, the old law was fulfilled. In Matthew 28:18 “…All power is given unto me in heaven and earth.” So, in Luke 23:42, this indicates that the thief had faith in Jesus as the Christ. Jesus told the thief in verse 43 that he would be in paradise with Him. Jesus forgave the thief’s sins. This was under the old law.

As an example of laws: just like the seat belt law that we now have. Click it or ticket. The law went into effect in 1984. The law enforcers could not give anyone a ticket for no seat belt before 1984. Since then the law has been passed, law enforcement can give tickets for no seat belts.

We have two different laws, the Old Testament and the New Testament. Up to Christ’s death on the cross, everyone was still under the old law. So, the thief was not commanded to be baptized. Therefore, after the cross, everyone had to be baptized to be saved. Mark 16:15-16 is the great commission that Jesus gave to the apostles to send them into the world to preach the gospel. Therefore the law has changed. Therefore, it is impossible to be saved like the thief on the cross. We must study our Bibles. 2 Timothy 2:15 “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” We must know our Bibles and properly understand what we need to do to be saved.

Life Beyond the Grave

In Luke 16:19-31, Jesus is telling the story of a certain rich man. Verse 19 describes this rich man that had all of life’s riches and materials, etc. “He was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day.” Then in verses 20-21, Jesus says “And there was a beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, and desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.” Verses 22-23 “And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being on torments, and seeth Abraham afar off and Lazarus in his bosom.”

Let’s take note of what Jesus is telling us. There are two men: one rich and one poor. Did the rich man help Lazarus as far as giving him food or anything for his health? No, he did not. Let’s compare these two men. They lived differently in this earth. Both died from this life. The rich man was buried but, Lazarus was taken to Abraham’s bosom. After death they ended up on different places: the rich man in torment and Lazarus in comfort.

The rich man saw Lazarus in comfort and wanted help. Verses 27-28 “Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father’s house: for I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.” Verse 29 “Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear.” The rich man pleaded with Abraham. When we pass from this life, there is no turning back.

Jesus is giving us a picture of how it’s going to be when we stand before Him in judgement. If we don’t do as Jesus said, Matthew 25:30 “And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping of gnashing of teeth.”

Yes, there is life beyond the grave. Eternal life in heaven with God or eternal torment with the devil. We each get to choose our destination.

We Need Prayer

I haven’t seen this in a while coming through the mail, but I do see this on Facebook. We are told to make so many copies of this letter and send to others within a certain time limit. On Facebook, the message is to do certain things within so many minutes so that you will be blessed somehow or possibly receive a lot of money. If you don’t respond, they say something bad is going to happen.

This is nothing more than Satan’s work. This is working on people’s emotions and trying to scare them. We need to pray for these people doing such deeds. Luke 6:27-28 “But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.”

We need to pray for everyone: our President, our country, our local government, our teachers, our preachers, etc. Pray for EVERYONE. We need to pray that we can resist the devil. 1 Peter 5:8 “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”

Our country is in a bad shape. It seems as if every thing that’s supposed to be right, is now wrong and vice versa. We have to look to God for the answers. Ephesians 6:10-12 gives us the answer we need. We need to be ready to resist the devil. Our country has been set back. We have stopped praying. Read Acts 12:1-10. We read the account of Herod killing James, the brother of John. Herod saw that it pleased the people. He put Peter in prison, but prayer was made without ceasing of the church for Peter. See how God worked in that situation?

If prison gates were opened for Peter, if prison gates were opened for Paul and Silas because prayer was being sent up for them, don’t you think we, as a nation, should be praying? Think about that.

It’s Almost Harvest Time

It won’t be very long until the farmers will begin harvesting their crops. Farmers know they can’t play around. They cannot predict the weather, so they have to make each day count. Therefore, the farmer needs a lot of help getting his crops harvested.

Jesus said the same thing in Matthew 9:37-38 “Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few. Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.” We don’t know when the end of earthly time is, so we have to be prepared.

Then the problems arise. We can teach someone the truth, but another will come along and tear down what was planted. Jesus said in Matthew 13:24-26 “Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.” Matthew 13:37-43 explain the parable about sowing seed.

The sower of good seed—Son of man (Jesus)
The field—is the world
Good seed—children of the kingdom
Tares—children of the wicked one
Enemy—is the devil

Matthew 13:39-43 explains what will happen at the harvest time. The end of verse 43 “…Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.” It’s up to each of us to hold on to the truth, because the devil will come along and change himself into a beautiful shining light. Satan knows our every weakness and has made sin look good. Revelation 2:10 “…be faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.”
