Explore the story of the Tower of Babel and turn the usual reading of it upside down. Diverse languages aren’t the curse — the tower is. https://buff.ly/sz7iMmj

In this conversation, Brian McLaren, Randy Woodley, and Edith Woodley talk about the cost of enforced sameness — from Native American boarding schools to the quiet pressure many people feel to hide what makes them different. What does it mean for the church to keep trying to finish a tower that the Creator never wanted rebuilt?

In 2013, MCC encouraged churches to challenge cultural norms supporting militarism and violent solutions to conflict. “We live in a time when an extraordinary amount of resources are devoted to projecting U.S. military power around the globe,” said Titus Peachey, then-MCC U.S. peace education coordinator. “Veterans’ suicides, civilian casualties, overthrowing governments and the concept of perpetual war have become commonplace.”

Today our governments continue to make astronomical investments in war and weapons. Although the actual number is disputed, the current war with Iran has so far cost the U.S. tens of billions of dollars – not to mention the priceless cost of lives lost and the devastation it’s bringing to communities and relationships across the globe. You can advocate to stop the bombing by writing to lawmakers, encouraging them to invest in peace, not war.
