On December 17th, we were privileged to host a Christmas concert, put on by John-Matthew Hines and a group of his wonderfully talented friends. It featured a variety of Advent and Christmas classics, bringing people together through song, organ and piano music.

Handling Chaos
Dear Friends,

In Genesis 1 we read that when God created the heavens and the earth, the “earth became chaos and emptiness, and darkness came over the face of the Deep – yet the Spirit of God was brooding over the surface of the waters.” (The Inclusive Bible)

How well do you tolerate chaos? I do somewhat well with it, but I often find it stressful. Messiness can nag at me. If my work desk is messy, my brain feels cluttered. But work must be done. If I can resist the urge to use my time to put everything in its proper place and organize my workspace before I begin to read, write, or pray, I find a path through chaos often emerges and a new way of seeing or saying something springs forth. Can we make and hold space for something new? Can we give the Spirit a chance to “brood over the chaos” of our lives and transform us?

Prayer:
God, it is difficult to be patient with ourselves, with others and with you. Chaos is not comfortable. We like to know where we are going and the best, easiest path to get there. Guide us with your wisdom and your grace so we can make the space for your Spirit, your holy order to emerge. Amen *

Love and blessings,

Pastor Wilma
