Two weeks ago, we had our very first College Prep! 🥳 We were able to help high school seniors and juniors prepare for college/university through four areas: resumes, essays, financial aid, and mental & spiritual health.

In our essay station, we would edit students' application essays. If they didn't have anything written yet, we would guide them through the process of starting their essay.
Our resume station was where students learned how to build a resume, from what it contained to how to format it.
The financial aid station helped students how to be financially ready for college/university. They recommended scholarships, assisted with FAFSA, and enabled students to understand financial aid.
In the mental & spiritual health section, students are counseled on how to better their mental & spiritual health. They are advised on what to do if their mental health is at risk or they don't know where to go next on their spiritual journey.

Any upcoming juniors and seniors are invited to come to our next college prep next year. The date is yet to be determined. 😊📚✏️

Summer is over, but St. Luke's Young Adults managed to make plenty of memories! We saw four painted churches, were able to volunteer at the Houston Foodbank, and partook in our Ministry Fair. 😁

The painted churches are located in Schulenburg, Texas, and can be seen through a tour where a tour guide will guide you through the history of each church. We really enjoyed the tour and had a wonderful time while also having a learning experience. The churches don't seem like much from the outside, but one step inside and beauty unfolds!

Volunteering in food banks benefits our community by providing food to those in need. Consequently, the Houston Foodbank offers many opportunities to volunteer and help provide hunger relief. We were able to take one of those opportunities by helping out with inspecting/scanning food and repacking carrots into family-sized bags.

The Ministry Fair took place on the 13th & 14th of August, and it's always great to see all the different ministries. We got to invite and welcome more young adults into SLYA! Email us at [email protected] to obtain our calendar of events. 😊
