Christian Science Houston

Christian Science Houston this Page is no longer managed by HouCom. The Christian Science Greater Houston Communications Committee (HouCom) was born. D. O.

In 1988 the Christian Science Publishing Society began producing English and Spanish radio and television programs in various formats. Individual churches in Houston, The Woodlands, and Pasadena applied for, and received, financial assistance from the R. Charlie Hamilton Fund (a fund whose designated purpose was to promote Christian Science activities in Texas); and each church began sponsoring pr

ograms in its own geographical area. In 1990, representatives of churches in the Greater Houston area met to explore ways to eliminate duplication of broadcasts and the accompanying waste of resources. Fifteen years later, in 2005, financial assistance from the Hamilton Fund was discontinued; and HouCom’s impressive broadcast schedule was downsized. However, we have continued to share The Christian Science Bible Lesson, The Sentinel, and El Heraldo on radio, television and, recently, by telephone. Also, this website (christiansciencehouston.com), with the cooperation of Seventh Church of Christ, Scientist, Houston, was established. During the past 18 years we have also participated in expositions, book fairs, and ethnic festivals, as well as three annual Pastoral Care events at the invitation of a chaplain at M. Anderson Hospital after she had attended a Christian Science lecture. Since May 2005, HouCom has been entirely funded by its ten participating churches along with generous contributions from individuals, out-of-area churches, bequests, etc. Contributions are tax deductible and will be gratefully received at our new mailing address:

History can teach valuable lessons in the face of extreme hardship. The 1906 San Francisco earthquake devastated the city and left about half the city’s population homeless. Though there was no physical building for Christian Scientists to worship, they eventually resumed church with open-air services. The first Wednesday evening testimony meeting was held by candlelight. “Never was a meeting so illumined. Gratitude was so great for the many wonderful deliverances from danger and disaster…”

Hymns found everywhere including the wonderful hymns in the two books published and used for CS churches are really prayers! Their words alone bring inspiration and healing. And the music....well it lifts the singer and the listener!

Sing a hymn today! 😊 🎶

Breath is a metaphor for spiritual inspiration. With concerns circulating in public thought about the air we breathe, when I’m out shopping or running errands, I find myself frequently humming these words to a hymn from the Christian Science Hymnal: Hymn 144 In atmosphere of Love divine, We live ....
