Open Loft #3! This year our groups have been able to go directly to Gregorian Chants, tackling the Communios and in some cases, the Introits. It really helps being immersed with other singers who are experienced and willing to help our guests come up to speed quickly! Yesterday we also took on Cesar Franck’s Panis Angelicus and worked aheadnon some Renaissance polyphony based on Panem de Caelo - that will make an appearance in a future Open Loft.

We had a wonderful time at Open Loft #1 last week and look forward to welcoming our guests for Open Loft #2 tomorrow! Pax et bonum.

No First Friday Organ Recital today, while the Pasi receives a little maintenance. Apologies for the short notice. While curating this part of the Opus 19 curation, this “quiet” week also saw several other special events:
Lots of new guests for Co-Cathedral Music Open Loft 2026 Sunday 1; Parish Baptisms and weddings; funeral of a longtime choir member and beloved Houston educator; a visit from a previous Associate Choir Director who recently completed a DMA; rehearsals for Armonía and the Catholic Schools Mass, to name just a few. Your downtown Cathedral and Co-Cathedral Music both have something going on, always. Grateful to God for those blessings!

Happy Feast of St. Mary Magdelene!

Today, July 22, we celebrate the Feast of St. Mary Magdalene—the first witness to the Resurrection and the one sent by Christ to proclaim the Good News, often called the Apostle to the Apostles.

May her example of repentance, faithful discipleship, and unwavering love for Jesus inspire us to seek Him with all our hearts.

St. Mary Magdalene, pray for us.
