The Vocation Office of the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston serves to assist men and women to discern God's call to the priestly and religious life while cultivating a culture of vocations throughout the Archdiocese. The Archdiocesan Vocation Office is an apostolate offering a range of services that begins with encouragement of the community’s awareness and support of vocations to priesthood and religious life in the Church and continues with helping an individual discern the correct nature of his or her call.

Last Sunday, our Verbum Tuum Discernment group came together again, welcoming both men and women. They had the chance to connect with consecrated individuals, asking thoughtful questions to help guide their discernment journey. We continue to support all young men and women discerning their vocations here in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston.

St. Pope John Paul II’s life reminds us that when we give ourselves fully to Christ, He remains with us through every season—through the difficult moments and the beautiful ones.

Am I Called to the Priesthood?

Even though a man only “knows” he is called when he is ordained, there are many positive signs that can point to a vocation, and here are some of them:

-A friendship with Jesus is important to me.
-People tell me that I would make a good priest.
-A desire to go to Mass and Adoration frequently, even daily.
-The thought of becoming a priest keeps coming back over and over again.
-I’m afraid to tell my friends and family that I’ve been thinking about the - priesthood.
-I imagine myself preaching or think about how I would preach the homily differently.
-I have a burning desire to help people get closer to Christ and to know the Truth.
-If some of these statements reflect how you feel, then God may be calling you.

Am I Called to the Priesthood?

Even though a man only “knows” he is called when he is ordained, there are many positive signs that can point to a vocation, and here are some of them:

1. A friendship with Jesus is important to me.
2. People tell me that I would make a good priest.
3. A desire to go to Mass and Adoration frequently, even daily.
4. The thought of becoming a priest keeps coming back over and over again.

Prayer is an essential part of discerning one’s vocation. We can only open our hearts to God’s Will if we take the time to sit down and listen to Him speak.
If you are struggling to hear God in your life, spend some time in silence. Put away your phone. Turn off your music. Go to Adoration, Pray the Rosary, Read Scripture.

Spend time away from the noise of the world. God speaks in the silence of our hearts.
