“David asked him, “Why weren’t you afraid to lift your hand to destroy the Lord’s anointed? “Then David called one of his men and said, “Go, strike him down!” So he struck him down, and he died. For David had said to him, “Your blood be on your own head. Your own mouth testified against you when you said, ‘I killed the Lord’s anointed” (2 Samuel 1:14-16)
A young Amalekite had thought that he would be well treated by David by bringing the news of Saul’s death; David’s head hunter. He claimed to have killed Saul, the anointed of the Lord. He had brought Saul’s crown to David not only to validate his claim but primarily to impress David. Regrettably, David’s reaction to his news shocked the Amalekite because David and his men mourned for the dead including all that had been killed in the battle. When David inquired of the young man’s background the young man answered,” I am the son of a stranger, an Amalekite”(verse 13) The word stranger here means a “sojourner”,” a person living in a new land without all the rights and cultural backgrounds of a native citizen” Unlike the young Amalekite, David had intense reverence for God and His anointed ones so despite all the plots and wickedness of Saul against David , the fear of God in David was so intense that he transferred the same fear to whatever had a link to God regardless. The young Amalekite represents the praise-singers in our churches today, who usually sound unwarranted accolades to church leaders solely for their desire for some position or popularity. Unfortunately, these praise singers have been known to spear head rebellion in churches if and when their desires are not fully achieved. Resentments, rudeness and malicious statements designed to ridicule and defame the character of their one time publicly acclaimed hero become their daily song. In order to curry the favor of the gullible and ignorant brethren in the church ,they often take credit for things they knew nothing about, they exaggerate their points and magnify any contributions they ever made but their ultimate desire is to mislead the ignorant and fall away with them. Lamentably, though, these praise singers are completely oblivious of the consequences of their acts hence God has never allowed any rebel to flourish.(Psalm 68:6)The church is a spiritual structure situated upon an invisible rock (Mathew 16:18)Therefore whenever our activities, intents, words and or inactions when actions are required tend to cause division in the church or disloyalty to authority that we once submitted to, we inadvertently become gates of hell but will also be confronted by Christ; the owner and the constructor of the building. As a rule, I do not speak about Men of God regardless of their status, struggles or denominations and affiliations. As a practice I have not and will never make any derogatory comment or statement against any pastors who at any time in my life had laid their hands on my head either for my ordination or for prayers. The making of derogatory speeches, insinuations and instigations capable of causing the church and the pastor pain will invariably result in untold pain and even death on the perpetrators. David said to the young Amalekite, “Your blood be on your own head. Your own mouth testified against you when you said, ‘I killed the Lord’s anointed” (2 Sam 1:16)
Prayer: Dear Lord, please help us to choose our words especially when our desires are not fulfilled and our leaders seem not to hear our cries or see our tears. Do not allow our head to rule our hearts lest we corrupt our spirit and pollute our words to the detriment of our destiny. Grant us the grace to always repent and return so we receive mercy and be restored. Hear our prayers through Christ our lord. Amen
I wish you a sincere repentant heart and a very rewarding week. Blessings.
