We had a terrific camp this week at Timberlake Ministries in Millport, AL. Sixty of us from Chickasaw County focused on the theme of being “Called” by God. We’re thankful for everyone in our association who made the trip possible.

After discussion with our pastors about the rising COVID numbers in Chickasaw County and the recent precautions given by our governor, we have decided to cancel our fall meeting. We will distribute fall meeting booklets to our churches over the next few weeks.

Jesus did not appear to have a body; He really had one. He can sympathize with us as our Great High Priest, because He lived in flesh and bone. He understands our weaknesses and limitations and steps in to help us with His infinite might. We've just come out of the Christmas season. The second verse of "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing!" spotlights this doctrine.

Christ, by highest heaven adored;
Christ, the everlasting Lord;
Late in time behold Him come,
Offspring of a virgin’s womb.
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see;
Hail th’ incarnate Deity,
Pleased as man with man to dwell,
Jesus, our Emmanuel.
Hark! the herald angels sing,
“Glory to the new born King!”

The theme for Day 2 of the Sure and Secure devotion emphasis is John's first-hand experience with Jesus. He wrote with confidence because he walked with, touched, talked with, and observed all that Jesus said and did. John didn't have to rely on others' experiences with Jesus because he had his own.
Since my college days, I have written in composition books about what I think God is teaching me and doing in and around me. Those simple spiral-bound notebooks give me a record of what God has done. I can go back and read days' entries from years ago to reinforce my faith today based on what God did then.
Although the faith of others can encourage, teach, and inspire us, we need our own experiences with the Lord. We regularly need to ask ourselves, "What is God doing in ME? What is He calling ME to do?" Part of discipleship is learning the reality of life in Christ.

Today is the first day of our "Sure and Secure" devotion emphasis through the letters of 1, 2, and 3 John. Jesus is the Word Who reveals the nature and ways of God. Jesus shows us that God looks out for the leftovers and knows the neglected. He sees more than those who are in the spotlight on center stage. As I read through Day 1's material, this song by Tommy Walker came to my mind:

"He Knows My Name"
I have a Maker
He formed my heart
Before even time began
My life was in his hands

I have a Father
He calls me His own
He'll never leave me
No matter where I go

He knows my name
He knows my every thought
He sees each tear that falls
And He hears me when I call
