What can we say about Deacon Dale, his legacy and his impact that you haven’t already heard or don’t already know? He was such a beloved beacon of the SJV community. He loved the Lord and lived for Him, for Sandy, his wife, and his family, and for SJV.
Although he was involved in so many things, we at Social Services remember him fondly as an unwavering, unapologetically staunch defender of the lives of the vulnerable; especially those in the womb and their mothers. He always supported our efforts and led by example. For that, we will be eternally grateful.
We offer our deepest condolences to Sandy and the Steffes Family. While he is greatly missed, our hope is that all of us who were blessed to know him and work with him will carry on a portion of his legacy. He did so much for so many, but his greatest work was inviting and encouraging others to do, to get involved, to live out their discipleship through the many ministries, groups and organizations within SJV.
May God grant his loved ones the comfort and peace of knowing how much he and they are loved. We offer our prayers for the eternal rest of his soul, as well as for Sandy and the Steffes family.
Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let the perpetual light shine upon him. May Deacon Dale’s soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God rest in Peace. Amen.

It is with profound loss and deep faith that we announce the passing of Deacon Dale on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the age of 93. A devoted Catholic and deeply loved soul, Deacon Dale lived a life rooted in prayer, service, and trust in God.

Arrangements for Deacon Dale are as follows:
Vigil | Tuesday 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM in the church
Rosary | Tuesday 7:00 PM in the church
Funeral Mass | Wednesday, 1:30 PM in the church
Reception following funeral Mass in the Activity Center
Burial | TBD in the VA Cemetery

Deacon Dale is survived by his wife Sandy, 5 children, 14 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. Join us in prayer for his soul and for the Steffes family during this time.

“For I was a stranger and you welcomed me.”
On Wednesday July 8, 2026, SJV High School Students and Adult Chaperones volunteered at the Galveston Seafarers’ Center. They assembled “Gift Bags” for Seafarers, men and women who live and work at sea. This was accomplished and so much more! Deacon Jeff Willard gave us a tour of the wonderful facility and explained in detail exactly how the GSC serves very important needs of seafarers from around the world.
The team assembled 30+ Drawstring Backpack Gift Bags that contain hygiene items, playing cards, handmade beanies, crossword books, nail clippers, and socks. These gift bags will be given to ship crew members coming to the Port of Galveston from all around the world. Thank you, Deacon Jeff, for hosting our youth and facilitating this opportunity to serve, and many thanks to all who participated!

The next small group for support after miscarriage begins on Sunday, July 19. This support group is for individuals and couples seeking healing following miscarriage and stillbirth.

If you have experienced a pregnancy loss, consider joining us this month for our virtual parents’ support group. This two-month group meets weekly and allows for connection with other parents, faith sharing, prayer and spiritual and emotional support.
