Houston Congregation for Reform Judaism (HCRJ)

Houston Congregation for Reform Judaism (HCRJ) Located in Houston’s Galleria area, HCRJ is an intimate, inspiring and inclusive community. Classes are held on Sunday mornings.

In 1957, our congregation was born of the idea that Judaism is a religion
that should be practiced in harmony with the dictates of our hearts
instead of focusing on the use of symbols and accouterments. We believe that Judaism should be exemplified in all human relations by
equality, brotherhood, justice, righteousness, and recognition of our
mutual responsibility to each other. We worship wit

h ceremonies that are designed to be simple and
meaningful and that emphasize English so that all can understand the
liturgy. We see our future as an energetic alternative to larger congregations for
families who yearn for community and wish to be a part of an active
congregation. Our innovative religious school is based on a curriculum designed to
engage students in dynamic, interactive learning experiences that
teach Jewish history and principles through nature, art, cooking and
other fun, exciting activities.

This Sunday at 2pm, come over to Houston Congregation for Reform Judaism to see Remembering Gene Wilder, an enrapturing and heartfelt documentary, which takes a close look at the life and career of Gene Wilder, from his Jewish upbringing in Milwaukee, to his early stage work, to his breakthrough collaborations with Mel Brooks and Richard Pryor, to his marriage to Gilda Radner and beyond.

Using a variety of touching and hilarious clips and outtakes, never-before-seen home movies, narration from Wilder’s audiobook memoir and interviews from a roster of brilliant collaborators including Mel Brooks, Alan Alda, Carol Kane, Harry Connick, Jr., Rain Pryor, Karen Wilder (Gene’s wife) and Peter Ostrum, who portrayed Charlie in one of the Gene’s most memorable roles, W***y Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, this film shines a light on an essential performer, writer, director and all-around mensch!

Popcorn, lemonade, coffee and water will be provided for your enjoyment. Wrap up your month of June by watching a film at HCRJ! Please RSVP to Justin at 713-782-4162 or [email protected].
