Mercy Street

Mercy Street A church community creating a safe harbor of hope. Meets Saturdays at 5:30pm, in person or online. ***I Don’t Have My ST*FF Together.

Can I Still Come?***

Everyone from all walks of life is welcome here, regardless of where you are in your spiritual journey, regardless of what you believe. When you come on Saturday nights, you’ll see business executives and folk between jobs, a young professional and a young adult in treatment. We’re cool if you’ve been in the back of a cop car or you drive a cop car. Whether you’re part of a f

amily, struggling to raise teenagers or just out of a tough relationship—we’ve got a seat for you. We believe a different kind of community forms when we set aside what can easily separate us, things like being Republican, Democrat, a Texan or die-hard Cowboy fan, two days sober or never touched a drink, documented or undocumented, introverted or never met a stranger, worn out or energized. We are a part of the United Methodist tradition which means we believe the grace of God is available to all, offers forgiveness and calls us to a life of justice and mercy.

***What’s The Worship Service Like?***

Saturday night at Mercy Street is filled with live music, authentic stories and practical messages set in a casual come as you are environment. We extend a gift of Christian community to everyone, no matter what faith, religion, addiction, or experience. More specifically:
We’re paper free so there's no bulletin, but here’s what you can expect: homemade cookies and coffee, sing a few songs, short prayer/meditation, and open-mic celebrations for what God is doing in our city. Then we read from the Bible, usually some fascinating story of the unholy, uncertain yet hope-filled people guided by a God known for radical grace and love, and our pastor gives a 25 minute message. Aftewards, we have 12-step meetings, a mental health peer support group and small groups. The first Saturday of the month we celebrate Holy Communion—all are welcome to the table. The second Saturday of the month we go to dinner at Buffalo Grille (Voss & Woodway) after the service. We enjoy conversation and connection before and after each service. We start the service right at 5:30PM so come a little early to hang out, enjoy homemade cookies and coffee, and grab a seat before 5:30PM.

Last week, a few Mercy Streeters gathered at Rothko Chapel and The Menil Collection to practice Visio Divina, a prayerful way of interacting with art. We learned the beauty of slowing down and getting curious. Many of us came away more hopeful and connected. Thankfully, it’s a practice anyone can do!

From Pastor Maggie: “If we slow down long enough we might hear how the Spirit of God is speaking to us. If we linger awhile in our present moment we might see God in a way we haven’t noticed.”

Karaoke! 🎤 Chick-Fil-A! 🐔 Pentecost! 🔥

This Saturday, May 23, we celebrate , the day we remember the birth of the church through the gift of the Holy Spirit. In worship at 5:30, we will look at John 20 and the risen Christ who comes to his disciples offering peace, as he still bears his wounds. Then, we’ll head over to the Scout Hut for our Pentecost Party.

Come worship, sing, eat, and celebrate the Spirit who inspires us and makes us new!
