This precious little girl is growing up in the second largest slum in Nairobi. Over 600,000 people live there. She may not have very much but look at the joy on her face. She is around the church regularly and surrounded by people who love God in the midst of their circumstances. I can think of many many places in America where children have an abundance of everything. They are not as joyful as this little one. They are not part of a community of believers and are bereft of the influence of God’s people upon their lives. There is unsatisfied emptiness in their lives that only God can fill. This child blessed me. As soon as she saw me, her face lit up with a bright smile and twinkling eyes. May she be blessed by the Lord, protected in the fellowship of believers, and taught to follow Jesus in her life as she grows.

Last things: here are a few interesting sights caught mostly out the window. The quality is not great but it captures a bit of true life in Ghana.

Before we started the drive back, we watched the elephants swimming and playing in the water. So much fun!

Sunday morning worship at Ditney Baptist Church in Yendi, Ghana. Carl Van Ryswyk prayed over the congregation, I sang, and Stuart Sheehan preached. It is wonderful to worship with believers around the world. We serve a big God. He gets bigger in my mind every time I experience the expanse of the kingdom. His size doesn’t change. My perspective does.

I’ve often read in Proverbs about wisdom and knowledge. I have not had a good example to illustrate until today. We went to look at a piece of property that the ministry here is interested in. Carl Van Ryswyk had much knowledge about building construction and what it takes to buy and build, drainage, roofing, etc. When it came to talking about valuation, he said that there is what the seller thinks it’s worth and what the buyer is willing to pay. No matter what anyone else says. You negotiate between you to find a compromise. That is wisdom from years of experience. I witnessed knowledge and wisdom at work.

Carl Van Ryswyk and I visited the school this afternoon for “Conversation Time”. We told the kids about our school background and our families. Carl was the ROCK STAR and was peppered with questions about flying a plane, robots, and more. This is the closest many of them will ever get to a pilot. It was so much fun!

Students of World Hope Bible Institute study in groups. They are working on a hermeneutics (interpretation of the Bible) assignment. Discussing how culture, religion, and geography shape the meaning of John 4:1-30 (woman at the well) Most of these 60 students are first generation Christians. Stuart Sheehan takes the time to fill in the gaps as he is teaching broader principles. Both Stuart and I come from multi-generational Christian families. We heard these stories and concepts explained from the time we were tiny children. These Ghanaian students are hungry to know what most American Christians take for granted.

Morning assembly at the secondary school. Among several verses, the hymn “Take My Life and Let It Be”, and the pledges, here they are quoting 2 Corinthians 12:13– May the grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all. Amen” 80% of these children come from Muslim homes to receive the superior education that this
Christian school offers. They also receive the truth of the scripture on a daily basis and commit it to memory.

Had a thorough tour of the government hospital here. From the old parts originally built by the Germans to the newest part built by Global Ministries led by Pastor Emmanuel Mustapha and Care For Ghana, from the US. Ministry has many fingers. Two new operating theaters, a beautiful ICU, and more. 150,000 people....and only one doctor. ONE doctor whose specialty is OBGYN and who must tend all these patients no matter what is wrong with them. One broken down ambulance that would be used to transport those who have been stabilized to a teaching hospital 2 hours away. Instead they have to go by some other method and hope they live to make it there. They are doing so much with so little. National Health has not paid them their money since April of 2017. Yet they continue to help people as best they can. That is why the ministry here is so appreciated to come alongside to do what it can to provide for the people of
this community and surrounding area.
