August Book-of-the-Month:

Trauma-Sensitive Schools by Susan E. Craig

Happy Back-to-School, everyone! More and more, we are learning how trauma affects academic success. This book is a helpful tool that integrates “research on children’s neurodevelopment and educational best practices.” It teaches how to “successfully manage the behavior of children with symptoms of complex developmental trauma.” While this book was written with educators in mind, it is a great resource for anyone interested in this important topic.

Lately, we have been getting a lot of questions about what Kinship care is!

Kinship care is when a child is cared for by relatives or close family friends instead of entering the foster care system.
It might be a grandparent stepping in, an aunt opening her home, or even a trusted neighbor who’s “like family.” This can happen informally or through the support of child welfare agencies. Even in the Bible, Esther was raised by her uncle, Mordecai.
These caregivers offer stability and love in a hard season, often with little time to prepare.
Kinship families can carry a heavy load, and many don’t know where to turn.
Here at Legacy 68:5, we desire to walk alongside them to support, equip, and sustain them, because no one should do this alone. Reach out if you are a kinship caregiver or have questions about kinship care. We would love to connect with you!

In moments like these it’s important to remember to breathe.

When the news hits too close to home, when it all becomes too overwhelming, remember that the Spirit of the Living God resides in YOU and just like He breathed life into Adam’s lungs (Gen 2:7) He can put breathe in your lungs too.
