St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Westfield

St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Westfield a member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod We are a Confessional and Liturgical church.

That means that the basic pattern of our worship is drawn from the services that have been used by Christians for many centuries all across the world. The components of the Liturgy come from the Bible and serve to focus our worship on God's Word and our response to His Word in faith. As Martin Luther once said, "We worship to hear God speak and to speak to the God who hears us."

Today we give thanks to God for the life of Aileen Mercer, whom the Lord called to Himself in the sure and certain hope of the resurrection.

Born: March 5, 1933
Entered eternal rest: April 5, 2026

We invite you to join us as we commend her into the hands of our gracious Savior and hear again His promises of life everlasting:

The Funeral Service will be held in : St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Westfield
Friday 04/10/2026
Viewing: 10:00 AM
Funeral Service: 11:00 AM
Burial to follow immediately after the service in our cemetery.

In Holy Baptism, Aileen was united to Christ’s death and resurrection. There, God placed His name upon her, forgave her sins, and made her His own child. That promise does not fail. As Scripture declares, “If we have been united with Him in a death like His, we shall certainly be united with Him in a resurrection like His” (Romans 6:5).

Though we grieve, we do not grieve as those without hope. Christ Jesus, who died and rose again, has conquered death. Because He lives, Aileen lives. Her body rests in peace, awaiting the glorious day when our Lord will raise her and all believers to everlasting life.

We gather not only to mourn, but to hear again the victory of Christ over death, and to be comforted by His Word and promises.

“Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord… that they may rest from their labors.” (Revelation 14:13)

Today at St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Westfield, we rejoiced as we celebrated the Rite of Confirmation. Four of our young members publicly confessed the faith into which they were baptized, affirming their trust in Christ and His saving promises.

We give thanks to God for His faithfulness through His Word and Sacraments, by which He has sustained and strengthened them in the one true faith. It is a joy for our congregation to witness this milestone and to continue walking together as the body of Christ.

Lord, keep them steadfast in Your Word, and bring them at last to everlasting life. Soli Deo Gloria.

With Christian sorrow we share the passing of our brother in the faith, Mr. Gary Lawrence. Death brings real sadness, and we do not deny that grief, for love is real. Yet even in our mourning, we rest in the sure promises of God.

We give thanks that in Holy Baptism the Lord placed His Name upon Gary, united him with Christ’s death and resurrection, and granted him the forgiveness of sins, life, and salvation. That promise stands firm. He now rests in Christ, awaiting the glorious resurrection of the body on the Last Day.

With this hope, we invite family and friends to gather with us in thanksgiving for God’s grace and to commend our brother into the Lord’s merciful care.

As a church family, we grieve the passing of our beloved brother in Christ, Mr Gordon Munson. Our hearts are heavy, and we acknowledge the real sorrow that death brings. We mourn because we love.

Yet we do not grieve as those without hope. With thanksgiving, we confess that Gordon was received into God’s gracious promises through Holy Baptism. There, God placed His Name upon him, united him with the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and gave the sure promise of forgiveness, life, and salvation.

That promise is not broken by death. In Christ, death has been defeated. We trust that Gordon now rests in the peace of the Lord, awaiting the resurrection of the body on the Last Day, when Christ will call His own by name.

As we wait, God comforts us through His Word and strengthens us with the same hope first given to us in Baptism: because Christ lives, we also shall live. In this confidence, we commend Gordon into God’s merciful care and await the joyful reunion in the resurrection to come.

With sorrow, yet with steadfast hope in Christ, we announce that
Karen Mavus
a member of our congregation, has been called by the Lord to her eternal rest.

We trust in the promise of God given in Holy Baptism, where she was united with Christ in His death and resurrection (Romans 6:3–5). The Good Shepherd who says, “My sheep hear My voice” has now called His servant into the fullness of the life promised in Christ Jesus.

We give thanks to God for her life, faith, and for the sure and certain hope of the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come—resting not on works, but on God’s grace alone in Christ.
