CSMC Texas District, Fountain of Joy, Houston was born out of the collective interest of people, whose main goal was to have a place of worship with the mode of worship that they grew up with in Nigeria and also win souls to Christ. BRIEF HISTORY OF THE CHURCH
The Cherubim and Seraphim Church of Houston was born out of the collective interest and aspiration of few people, whose main goal was to ha
ve a place of worship that is reflective of the mode of worship that they grew up with in their home country of Nigeria. The day was February 20th 2005, and it was not until we had our application approved as a church by the state of Texas that we were able to call ourselves a church. Upon the approval by the Texas Secretary of State, the church was officially inaugurated on 10th April, 2005, under the direction of Pastor John O. At our first worship service, there were 20 members in attendance, which at that time was considered a very good number, considering the fact that we have not done any advertisement as to the existence of this young church. Through it all, the few members we had then were very devoted and very punctual at all the services that were going on in the church at the time. As the church began to grow, it became necessary that we found a bigger place to accommodate the growing members. Assistant Pastor Tunji Adamoh was charged with this responsibility to work with a realtor in order to secure a better place. The main stipulation for this charge was that it must have the approval of all the members that made up the church at the time. It took about one month to find the location we currently occupied. It has been a steady growth ever since. As part of the doctrine of our church, the leader of the church must be selected through the direction of the Holy Spirit. So it was that several names were submitted for consideration. At the end of the spiritual exercise to determine who will lead the church, the name of Pastor John Obafemi came up, and he henceforth became the leader and the voice of this young church. We give glory to God almighty for the way He is directing this church under his leadership. We have made so many strides in moving the church forward and the growth is well assured if we continue to follow the direction the Lord is leading us. As much as we rely on the divine guidance of the Holy Spirit in all that we do, we also have the help and undying tutelage of Bishop Dr. Gabriel O. Fakeye, who has been and still continue to guide us. He is always there to help us when we call on him. Indeed we consider ourselves fortunate to have a man of his experience working with us. This church operates under some fundamental principles based on the text of the King James Version of the Holy Bible. The cornerstone of our doctrine rests on our belief in the Holy Trinity, firmly believing that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior. We also believe in the power of divine healing, prophecies, vision, and prayers, believing that through Christ all things are possible. In order to better manage the affairs of the church, the church relies on the council of elders, whose sole responsibility is to assist and advise the Pastor in his day to day operation of the church. They also come together to formulate policies and to monitor the strict adherence to the doctrine of the Cherubim and Seraphim Church Organization. Together as one body, the elders are charged with preparing reports and quarterly update for the Pastor who will then present it to our parent (Headquarters) church in Nigeria. In our few years as a church, we have experienced tremendous growth, not only in terms of new adult members but youth (ages 20-33) as well. Our youth program is becoming very vibrant, and the indication is that there will be steady growth in their ranks. Our ultimate goal is to propagate the kingdom of Christ and to declare his goodness to all men. To this end, the elders have been charge with the task of working on finding a location for the church that will accommodate the anticipated growth both for the immediate and long term. And by God’s grace, this shall be accomplished.
