Oikos Church Families on mission. Formed by Jesus. Sent to make disciples. We desire to be a family where everyone contributes and everyone is supported. Welcome to the Oikos!

Oikos Church is a family on mission together whose purpose is to help people experience Jesus and to make disciples who make disciples. We try our best to live life together as an oikos (an extended family through the blood of Christ) and are eager to join God's mission of redemption; to actively invest in the lives of others so that everyone we meet can experience Jesus and live life to the fullest. Oikos is men, women, children, families, singles, doctors, lawyers, plumbers, salesmen & women, musicians, artists, engineers, divorced, married, etc. No one family is the same, but we are all united in community together around the cross of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Our identity is communicated through our mosaic 'O' logo. We are all broken as individuals and as families, but we are drawn together as family around the unbroken cross of Jesus Christ, who gives new life and makes all things new. When gathered around the cross, our brokenness is made into something beautiful for God truly makes beautiful things out of the dust. We gather for worship on Sunday mornings at 10:00am at 522 Lindale, 77022 in Lindale Park area and throughout the week in our missional communities.

ARE OUR EXPECTATIONS KEEPING US FROM JESUS?

In Luke 19, the crowd grumbled because Jesus welcomed Zacchaeus.

They had already decided what kind of person he was—and what kind of person Jesus should spend time with.

In Matthew 11:12–19, Jesus points to another problem: people criticize John the Baptist for one approach and Jesus for another.

Sometimes we've made up our minds before we've really listened.

We expect God to work a certain way. We decide who should be welcomed. We dismiss what doesn't fit our expectations.

What if we slowed down long enough to listen before making up our minds?

The Oikos Pathway invites us to listen to Jesus and remain open to the ways He challenges us.

GRACE CHANGES HOW WE LIVE

When Jesus welcomed Zacchaeus, something changed.

Zacchaeus committed to giving to the poor and making restitution to the people he had cheated.

He wasn't trying to earn Jesus' love. His actions were a response to the grace he'd already received.

That's an important distinction.

We don't practice the way of Jesus to prove that we belong. We practice because Jesus has welcomed us and is changing us.

This week's simple step:

Make room for one person through one unhurried conversation.

Put your phone away. Ask a question. Listen to their story.

You don't have to fix everything. Just make room.

GRACE ISN'T OURS TO RATION

The crowd grumbled when Jesus chose to spend time with Zacchaeus.

Why him? Why would Jesus welcome someone like that?

It's easy to believe grace is for people who try hard, make good choices, or have finally learned their lesson.

But Jesus didn't wait for Zacchaeus to become someone else before calling his name.

Grace began the change. It wasn't a reward for changing first.

The Oikos Pathway reminds us that we belong because of God's grace—not because we've earned our place.

Today, ask yourself: Am I receiving God's mercy with open hands, or deciding who deserves it?

JESUS SEES THE PERSON OTHERS OVERLOOK

Zacchaeus had money and influence, but his reputation kept people at a distance.

The crowd saw a tax collector they despised.

Jesus saw Zacchaeus. He called him by name and made room for him.

Sometimes we know what it feels like to wonder if we belong. Other times, we’re the ones deciding who fits and who doesn’t.

Luke 19 reminds us that Jesus came to seek and save the lost.

Who might you be overlooking because you've already decided who they are?

This week, look for one person you can welcome, listen to, and make room for.

MAKE ROOM FOR MERCY

It’s easy to compare ourselves with others.

Sometimes we even use someone else’s mistakes to feel better about our own.

But what if, instead of comparing, we prayed:

“God, be merciful to me — and help me extend mercy to others.”

We don’t have to earn God’s grace, and we aren’t called to keep it to ourselves.

The grace we receive can shape how we welcome, listen to, and walk alongside others.

Who might need a little more mercy from you today?

REPENTANCE IS A TURN TOWARD GOD

Repentance is more than saying, “I messed up.”

It’s recognizing where we’ve gone wrong and turning away from sin and toward God.

And when we stumble, we can turn back again.

You don’t have to stay stuck in shame. God’s grace invites you toward forgiveness and transformation.

A simple step for today: Ask God to show you one area where you need to turn back toward Him. Then take one small, honest step.
