The Center for Christian Spirituality

The Center for Christian Spirituality Many of us find the ways we’ve tried to connect with God just aren’t working, leaving us frustra And it’s OK.

At The Center for Christian Spirituality, we know many struggle to experience a deepening awareness of God that truly makes a difference in every part of their life. You may sense an uneasiness with your current ways of worship, prayer, and thinking about God. They don’t seem to work anymore and you’re not sure where to turn for help. This can leave you feeling like you’re missing something or eve

n like there is something wrong with you. Here at The Center, we know what it feels like when what you’ve been doing no longer works and you find yourself yearning for more. It’s actually a part of the spiritual journey, but one that you may not have been taught yet or given the tools to walk through before. For over 20 years, The Center has helped people like you access ancient and relevant teachings and tools that help you deepen your awareness of God, self, others, and creation. Here is how you can take the next step:

First, try Contemplative Worship with us on Sunday mornings where we craft the time and space for you to be still and quiet, gently guiding you to not just think about God, but become more receptive to the Beloved’s abiding, transforming presence. Second, share in the experience of a contemplative practice with others in our community at one of our regular gatherings, such as a Centering Prayer, a meditative walk, or simply sharing with another what you experienced in Contemplative Worship. Third, deepen your awareness of God by engaging in one of our courses, classes, or groups where we disclose more of the practical teachings and tools for the part of the spiritual journey you are on. You don’t have to feel disillusioned and alone in your spiritual journey. You can live a more present and compassionate life with a deepening awareness of Divine Love within and around you, transforming who you are with God, self, others, and the creation.

Tomorrow, September 6, churches everywhere will mark, for the first time, a newly established Feast of Creation in Christ, and we'll celebrate it together at 8:45 in The Chapel and via livestream.

Hildegard of Bingen called it viriditas — the greening power she believed moved through every living thing as proof that God was still, actively, at work in creation. Much of what we carry as disconnection — from ourselves, from each other — may be, underneath, a forgetting of the ground we're made from and the life still moving through it.

As we walk through our current Contemplative Worship series, "Veriditas: The Greening Power of God," we invite you to visit the new Creation Care page on our website (https://thecenterfcs.org/creation-care/), full of information and resources we’ve collected for you to help make caring for creation a part of your daily life.

Most of us are carrying a longing we can barely name. For 25 years, The Center for Christian Spirituality has been a home for people who carry exactly that.

On September 20, we're celebrating with Holy Longings, an evening of original music, spoken word, and community testimonials.

Whatever you're longing for this fall, there is a place for you. Come and see.

Where Sound Meets Silence: A Weekly Gathering for Sacred Listening

Today, Thursday, September 3 | 10:30am
The Anchor House & Livestream

This weekly gathering returns today. Instrumentalists guide a gentle rhythm of silence, Scripture, and improvised music. Within this quiet, gentle space, we reflect on the passage appointed for Sunday’s worship, trusting the Spirit to speak anew through word and sound alike.

We gather for about thirty minutes of prayer, stillness, and reflection. Those unable to attend in person are warmly invited to join online as the reflection is streamed live here on Facebook and at: https://live.centerforchristianspirituality.org/

Come and rest where sound meets silence, and the Word speaks in the hush between notes.

This week we began a new worship series, Viriditas, Hildegard of Bingen's name for the greening power she believed moved through every living thing as proof that God was still, actively, at work in creation. Much of what we carry as disconnection — from ourselves, from each other — may be, underneath, a forgetting of the ground we're made from and the life still moving through it.

Later this fall the School for Contemplative Living offers Laity UNLEASHED: Explore Your God-Given Gifts & How to Use Them

Six Sunday Evenings | October 18 - November 22 | 5:30-7:30 pm | $80
Registration is open through September 21

God created all of us on purpose for a purpose. There are gifts, strengths, and things each of us are passionate about that all come from God. We often hear call stories from clergy on when they first heard God call them into ministry. What we don’t hear as often are the call stories from the laity of the church. But the reality is, God calls each of us and it is our responsibility to discern and respond to that call.

In this course led by Ginny Itz and Debbie Moffett, we will use the Birkman Method as a tool to discover more about ourselves, our strengths, our interests, how we see God in the world and where all of that might intersect with the needs of the world around us.
