Remembering Dr. E. D. Thornton
Today, we join countless others in mourning the passing of Dr. E. D. Thornton, founder of the Gospel Ministry Theological Institute (GMOR), a gifted teacher, mentor, theologian, and servant of God.
His impact on the North Star Baptist Church International family is both profound and immeasurable.
Our beloved leader, Bishop Mildred A. Henry, earned countless theological degrees through his institute. In 2008, GMOR expanded its reach and launched the GMOR North Star Institute of Theology. For the first two years of its existence, Dr. Thornton faithfully taught at our campus, while Bishop Henry served as Campus Director.
Dr. Thornton also played a significant role in our church’s history. He publicly proclaimed the Episcopal election of Bishop Henry and later served as a member of the Apostolic Presbytery that duly consecrated her to the office of Bishop in the Lord’s Church, affirming and commissioning her apostolic calling.
Because of his dedication to theological education, many of the sons and daughters of North Star have received seminary credentials and have been equipped for ministry through the work of his hands.
His legacy will continue to live on through every pastor, teacher, preacher, and servant he helped shape.
Thank you, Dr. Thornton, for your investment in God’s people, your commitment to biblical education, and your unwavering dedication to the Kingdom.
Well done, thy good and faithful servant.
