A new year brings new methods! There is a free bus pickup on Sundays at 9:30am in front of the Allen Center, and a light breakfast will be served at the church at 9:45am.
Buses will return to campus by 12:30pm; lunch, however, will be served for those who choose not to return to campus via bus.

Dear Class,

I have been posting the Genesis Bible Study’s each as audio on my website, www.jmtour.com, but also each week at 11 AM on YouTube and Facebook at drjamestour. But I feel it that I miss seeing your faces. Hence, while we are sequestered during COVID-19, we will have a Zoom Bible study on Genesis for all that wish to attend. We will continue in Genesis 34 where I left off this week, at Genesis 35:25.

You will need to have downloaded the free Zoom app. Then just click on the link around 11 AM on Sundays and you will be invited in at 11 AM. I will also record these meetings and post them each week. To turn off your Video, click on the video camera on the lower left—though I’d like to see you! That is what I miss. And after the teaching, I will open it to Q/A. Be sure to unmute your microphone so that you can ask a question. We will end by noon each week. URGENT

From Pastor Roger:

Dear Church Family,

On Wednesday afternoon, March 11, we made the decision to cancel programming through Friday of this week out of an abundance of caution. Later that evening, our Executive Council had a meeting via conference call to discuss whether to cancel our in-person worship services on Sunday and only offer worship online.

Prior to our meeting, I talked to city leaders in Bellaire and in West University Place, read from multiple sources, and talked with leaders in science and sought their input. One of the medical officials told me that in all his 40 years in medicine, he has never seen such a public health threat like he sees with the Coronavirus.

Additionally, I researched how this virus is both spread and thwarted. The answers to both are based on public gatherings. This is why we are seeing universities temporarily closing their doors, the NBA suspending its season, and the beloved Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo cancel the rest of the rodeo.

The way to thwart this virus is to not gather in public spaces. Developing research shows that if enough action is taken now by enough leaders in our public and private lives it will work to flatten the curve and mitigate the spread of the virus.

Given that so many in our fellowship are more susceptible because of age, and we have many in our midst who have depressed autoimmune systems, we believe that the best course of action that we can take is to move our ministry online for the foreseeable future. Therefore, our Executive Council, which includes leaders from both campuses, unanimously voted to suspend in-person worship this weekend.

We are saddened by this decision, but we believe it is prudent.

Proverbs 27:12 says, “The prudent sees danger and hides himself, but the simple go on and suffer for it.”

We are being advised of danger and are taking refuge. More information will follow today as I bring a brief message to you via video. We will also publish details of our online services and ways for you to stay engaged. We will get through this together.

Dear Bible Study Class,
I wanted to be sure that you saw this video from Pastor Roger regarding the church’s effort to protect from the coronavirus.

Further, for the safety of the college Bible study class, we will be serving only closed food packages like bananas, tangerines and yogurt for breakfast. And we will be canceling lunches until the danger of the virus subsides. So after the Lord’s Supper (bread and juice in sealed packages as always), we will not have lunch. However, I will remain in the church building to counsel and to share my story of coming to faith in Jesus with those that do not yet know Jesus as their Lord. If you do not yet know Jesus, please stay to talk with me. Bring your unbelieving friends.
Until notified otherwise, these change to the food served in the Bible class will remain in place each week.

Below is a message from Dr Tour regarding this Sunday, Marathon Sunday:

Dear Students,
Sunday January 19 is Houston Marathon Sunday. Many roads will be closed but the church bus will pick up from Rice as normal at 9:15 AM in front of the Allen Center.

If you are driving from Rice, you will have to exit Rice onto Rice Blvd. Take Rice Blvd. west until you reach Auden. Make a left on Auden and you will arrive at the church.

If you are coming from the south, like from Bellaire Blvd., park a few blocks south of University Ave and then just walk to the church.

If you are coming from UH or HBU, come on 59 and head south on Buffalo Speedway to Rice Blvd. Right onto Rice and then left on Auden.
