What if taking up our cross was more about extending ourselves in welcome of the other and less about personal asceticism? How might this shape us individually and as a church?

Jesus said “I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.”

We are thrilled to welcome back our friend Dr. Collin Cornell this Sunday. Dr. Cornell will be preaching a sermon titled “Divine Things.” We live in a world of haves and have nots, big people and little people, palaces and prisons. Our human reflex is to seek security, power, prestige. But in Jesus Christ, God goes to the cross and invites us to follow—to set our minds not on human things but divine things.

In our Eastertide gatherings we have been caught up into the reality that in a world of death dealing there is a sound that the dead do hear, a voice that moves them. It is the same voice of creation that said let there be light that now says “wake up all you dead and live!” God doesn’t merely offer institutional reform. God is at work in the world to make all things new. All things.

Come to the table. There is room for you.
