Vedanta Society of Greater Houston presents “Finding Ananda” a dramatized rendering of the significance of Swami Vivekananda’s mission

Here’s a brief synopsis of Finding Ananda:

The important features of the production are:

- a contemporary setting in which Swami Vivekananda looms large over the space without ever being seen himself on stage
- the focus on the relevance of his life and work for the youth of today.


The play makes a special attempt to introduce a contemporary audience to the significance of Vivekananda’s mission. The play shifts the emphasis from the conventional hagiographic view to a humanistic one, emphasizing a universal spiritual perspective, and highlights the Swami’s commitment to action for addressing pervasive social issues in society.



Vivek is the young Indian-American in Chicago, sent to India by his parents to discover his roots – a common phenomenon among first generation Indian emigrants. They know the director of a Vivekananda theatre project and request placement for the boy in the project. Vivek arrives in India a skeptic. In the process of debate and interaction with the project team he finds ananda. He is transformed and decides to stay back longer to work with a rural development programme committed to Swami Vivekananda’s ideals of service.

The only Durga Puja that takes place in the open, under a tent (pandal, a la Indian style!) Just 6 more days left. If you have not registered yet, please do asap. Registration is filling up fast and will close in 4 days. Let’s hope to see you all at the Houston Vedanta Center, welcoming Ma Durga in Houston on Sat. Sep. 20 at 9 am. Watch the Arati later and offer your prayers & devotion with the flowers of Pushpanjali and then join for the Lunch. Jai Ma Durga.

Some photos from a previous year's celebration. It's always a great day when Ma Durga's infinite blessings are showered on all the devotees. We hope to see many more to share this fun & happiness to begin the joyous days of Dusshera/Navaratri.

It's Sharat Kaal. Our Annual Sri Durga Puja is here again. Like the previous years, it'll be held in the open under a Pandal, on Satuday, October 14, at our Temple, the Vedanta Society of Greater Houston, 14809 Lindita Dr. Houston, TX 77083 However, due to the Solar eclipse in the morning, it'll be in the evening, the worship beginning at 3:30 p.m. The weather, for a change from the past few months, will be typical Sharodiya weather - sunny, clear blue sky & slightly cool. We hope to see you all again this year. Our usual worship, Arati, Pushpanjali and the accompanying devotional songs by Rupa Ghosh and her choir, will all be there to make the Devi Agamani a great celebration. Jai Ma.

Swami Medhanandaji from the Vedanta Society of Southern California, Hollywood Center is visiting VSGH from Sunday, June 18 to Tuesday, June 20. We are very honored to have him amongst us. Please join us with family and friends to enjoy his Retreat on "What his Reality" on Sunday, June 18, and then the two talks on the two subsequent days, Monday, June19 & Tuesday, June 20.

Sri Ramakrishna's birthday will be celebrated at the VSGH on Saturday Mar. 4, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. with a worship by Revered Swami Mahayoganandaji, a Resident Monk of the Hollywood Center of the Vedanta Society of Southern California, followed by Arati, Pushpanjali and lunch. Later, from 4:00 p.m. there will be an Interfaith Dialogue program, which is partnered by the Interfaith Ministries of Houston. Registration required for both events. 2022 DURGA PUJA CELEBRATIONS AT THE VSGH
Sri Durga Puja was celebrated in the open, under a tent, with a lot of enthusiasm again this year. The worship was performed by Revered Sw. Kripamayanandaji of Vedanta Society of Toronto.
