First Congregational Church of Houston, UCC

First Congregational Church of Houston, UCC An oasis of progressive Christianity. First Congregational Church is an assortment of seekers and thinkers. We hope you can find a home here as well!

We gather together to worship God (defined in many ways), to love others, to build community, to advocate for justice, and to explore what it means to be Christian in the 21st century. From the very beginning the members of First Congregational declared themselves to be an “open church,” that is a church open to all races and people, which was a radical idea for Houston, at the time that First Con

gregational was founded in 1955. In 1998, the church took a stand to be “Open and Affirming”, proudly welcoming all people regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.

Yay! Another great year celebrating FCC’s participation at the 2026 Houston Pride Festival. It may have been a rainy event, but that did not deter us from showing our continued embracement for the Q***r community, and all those seeking a welcoming place of faith. Thank you to all the volunteers from our FCC Family, who helped represent our church at this annual celebration. As we proudly share each year: “ Whoever you are, and wherever you are on your faiths journey, you are welcome here.“

WE HAVE AN ORGANIST!

Mark Henry is a pianist, organist and composer who has accompanied various professional, school and university choir programs along with church congregations over three decades of performance in the Southwest Louisiana and Central Texas regions.

As a composer primarily writing for piano and chorus, he has been commissioned to write choral pieces for those who have worked with him and enjoys employing the styles of the arrangers that influenced his own playing over his career to create music embodying a hopeful and joyous tone.

Come see him in the flesh for the first time at FCC, tomorrow at 10AM.

Who we are at FCC. The congregation takes pride in the tradition of recognizing when cherished members are called to a new chapter in life. One of our special traditions includes presenting “Bread for the Journey “ lovingly prepared by a member of our Church. It is presented at a Sunday service as a symbol of gratitude for their contributions and blessing for the road ahead . These moments are always heartfelt, celebratory, and hope for future visits and continued connection. Visit our website to learn more about FCC and the message that “God is still speaking".

FCC annual picnic was a success once again! The hospitality board made sure everything was ready after Sunday’s service, with our grill masters and delicious covered dishes provided by the congregants. It was a great day of fellowship, children’s play, and celebration of the dedication and hard work of our volunteers and lay leaders throughout the year.
Take a moment to visit our website and see how our welcoming, progressive community continues to live out its faith together-because God is still speaking.
