Greetings to the Greater First Church Family , Houston Central District, Bishop Johnny Tates and Texas Greater Southeast First and May i say "Happy New Year to my precious family and everyone!

Personally the last couple of years was somewhat stressful, but I’m yet here by the grace of God and doing good so far. The word of the song says “I’ve been through the storm and the rain, but I’m still here thank God.“

I pray that 2026 is a year where our bonds grow stronger together through Christ’s love. May God’s favor rest upon our home and establish the work of our hands (Psalm 90:17)."

Oh what a great thing for you to do, go out of your way to make this gentleman happy . It don’t get any better than this. It brought tears of joy to my eyes. 🥲

When I learned Arthur had no one left to celebrate with, I knew I couldn’t go home. My name is Emily Rhodes, and two weeks ago I met a man who reminded me what compassion really means. Arthur Lane turned 94 today — but he had no one left to celebrate with. His wife passed years ago, he and his wife never had children, and all his brothers are gone too. When staff mentioned his upcoming birthday, he just smiled gently and looked toward the window. It was the kind of smile people use when they’re used to being forgotten. My shift ended at 6 PM, but I couldn’t leave knowing he’d face his 94th birthday alone. I stopped by a bakery, bought a small cake, and returned in my street clothes so it felt personal — not part of my shift. When I lit the candle and walked in, Arthur’s eyes filled with tears. He whispered, “I didn’t think anyone remembered.” For that moment, he wasn’t alone. He was celebrated.
