Live Oak Friends Meeting Live Oak Friends Meeting is an affirming community of the Religious Society of Friends, aka Quakers. The Meeting began in 1954, and has been growing ever since.

We are a community of seekers who meet in silent worship expecting to experience direct communion with God, the divine Spirit, or whatever name we use for that transcendent essence that infuses all life. A fundamental Quaker belief is that there is "that of God in everyone." We seek to interact with others from that perspective, and to live our lives according to the Quaker testimonies of integrit

y, equality, simplicity, and peace. Our meetinghouse is the conception of James Turrell, a well-known Quaker artist and creator of Skyspaces like the Meetinghouse and other works of art involving light. The architect is Leslie Elkins. Many generous donors from Houston, around the world, and within the Meeting helped us fund the meetinghouse and Skyspace. We invite the public to come share the experience of the light in the Meetinghouse at sunset, weather permitting, every Friday evening and the first Sunday of each month. The Meeting has about 75 attenders each week (plus or minus). Child care is provided. We have programs for both adult and children's religious education in addition to Meeting for Worship on Sunday mornings and a Wednesday evening discussion group and worship. Live Oak Friends Meeting is affiliated locally with Bayou Quarterly Meeting and South Central Yearly Meeting, nationally with Friends General Conference, and internationally with Friends World Committee for Consultation.
