The stars shined brightly at Broadway Family Shabbat! Rabbi Sam Rheins, along with David Scott and Michael Mason, led a musical Shabbat service, combining prayer and some of the most beloved show tunes from hit Broadway productions. Joining them on the Family Shabbat bimah were a few of the The Miriam Browning Jewish Learning Center’s most talented madrichim, who made the evening more special by singing songs from their favorite plays. We hope to see you for our final Family Shabbat of the year on April 10.

A glimpse of Saturday night ✨🎶

On January 31, Congregation Beth Israel welcomed world-renowned Israeli vocal group Kol Esperanza for an evening that was deeply meaningful, inspiring, and electric. Led by award-winning composer and conductor Maestro Tomer Adaddi, and joined by an orchestra of 25 professional Houston musicians, Kol Esperanza wove together music across genres and languages with powerful personal stories and reflections on Israel’s journey and strength since October 7.

We are profoundly grateful to The Carrolyn Fleishman Fund for underwriting this extraordinary performance, and to the entire Fleishman Family for their unwavering support. It was a night our community will never forget.

The sun was shining Saturday, but it was snowy inside for our Welcome to Winter Family Havdalah! Cantor Kenneth Feibush and Michael Mason led us in a fun song session and meaningful Havdalah service, and after we played in the snow, had snowball fights, and feasted on our favorite winter-themed snacks! We look forward to seeing you February 20 for Family Shabbat!

This Thursday, October 30, our Social Justice Committee invites you to participate in Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism's "Stopping Organized School Prayer" kickoff event at 7 PM via Zoom.

This school year, Texas school boards will debate SB 11, a bill that would permit organized prayer in public schools during the instructional day. This legislation undermines the fundamental Jewish values of religious freedom and the separation of church and state—principles that ensure every student can learn, belong, and practice their faith without government influence.

Join RAC-TX to learn more about SB 11, connect with partners across the state, and discover meaningful ways to advocate for students’ rights and uphold our shared values.
