"If the gospel is really for ALL people, we must consider how Christ would engage all aspects of our society."

In this week's article from the archives, Marie Burrus offers 7 basic missionary principles and applies them to engaging LGBTQ+ neighbors:
🙏 1. Pray for the work. Changed hearts is always God's work, so we must begin on our knees in prayer

🕊️ 2. Pray for a “person of peace.” Pray to meet someone in the LGBTQ+ community in whom the Spirit is already at work.

💌 3. Communicate care. Display God's love as a good neighbor, even to those you disagree with.

👂 4. Be a learner. Being curious about someone’s culture and experiences can break down barriers and reveal bridges to the gospel.

❓ 5. Get to the heart. Learn their worldview, and listen for how the truth of Scripture meets their hearts' desire.

🗣️ 6. Share the truth in love. Share your testimony, specifically how you find life in Christ rather than living your own way.

🤝 7. Connect with others. “Better Together” isn’t just a slogan for our association. It’s a deeply practical way to do ministry.

Not every disagreement deserves a church split.

In a culture that rewards outrage and division, Romans 14 reminds us that faithful, Bible-believing Christians can disagree on some issues while remaining united in Christ.

The challenge is learning to distinguish between what is essential to the Gospel and what belongs in the category of disputable matters. Conviction matters. Truth matters. But so do humility, charity, and cooperation.

The Great Commission is too important for every disagreement to become a reason for separation.

Reasonable people can disagree. The challenge is learning how to remain brothers and sisters when they do.

“Out of my distress, I called on the Lord; the Lord answered me and set me free.” Psalm 118:5
Today and every day, we're thankful to the One who does justice and gives us freedom.

May we learn from the dark seasons in our history and partner together to advance the gospel! Our city and association are better for the faithful contributions of our African American brothers and sisters. Happy Juneteenth!

Last month, Josh Ellis and Cris Alley led a team from CityRise Church and The MET Church to spend a week in Southern Germany. They visited Nuremberg and Ingolstadt to get a better idea of the work already taking place and consider ways to partner on mission.

The team prayer walked, engaged in gospel conversations, and met with local pastors to learn from and encourage them. Future opportunities range from long-term partnerships to promote relational discipleship and strengthen collaboration to short-term partnerships for prayer walks (including Christmas tours) in East Germany.

Last week, we joined thousands of pastors, ministry leaders, and church messengers in Orlando for the Southern Baptist Convention Annual Meeting.

The SBC may seem distant or complex, so we are providing an inside look at its proceedings, significance, and impact on local churches.

Highlights included commissioning 63 new missionaries, five consecutive years of baptism growth, and examples of churches collaborating to reach communities in North America and globally.

The meeting also featured key discussions on cooperation, church autonomy, and the SBC’s future direction.

At UBA, our commitment is steadfast. We believe churches are stronger together and serve alongside one another for the gospel, even when we differ on secondary matters.

Houston is too big, and the mission is too important, for us to lose sight of what matters most.

Whether it is a Malaysian-born Texan reaching the Rohingya, a former missionary meeting a waitress in a Pakistani restaurant, or a Hispanic couple going to Spain for the gospel, the message is clear: The harvest is here, and the pathways to send are open.

Three churches share stories of engaging the nations here and internationally:
