What is deconstruction and exvangelicalism?

In this article from the archives, Andrew Jennings, Professor at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, offers 8 things churches should know about these movements:
🤔 "Deconstruction" is hard to define because many will experience it differently.

🤳 Social media provides community for those asking questions about their faith

😶 Most people deconstructing their faith won't talk about it openly until they've reached some sort of conclusion

📣 Vocal "exvangelicals" may make the headlines, but overt antagonism doesn't tend to characterize the trend.

🧱 The stumbling block for deconstuctionists is more often Christians and their behavior than Christianity as a whole.

🩹 Most people begin to doubt from a place of pain (rather than an intellectual exercise)

🗣️ Deconstructionists won't be argued out of it since it's not primarily about intellectual objections.

⛪ Churches and leaders must consider how their discipleship can prevent deconstruction before it starts.

🔥 "Hispanic people are not pursuing the American Dream but God's dream."

Adrienne Segundo from Iglesia Cristiana Cypress shared about a sending movement happening within Hispanic churches. When his pastor heard about UBA's Missionary Sending Cohort, he immediately sent members, who attended and translated the entire curriculum into Spanish for their church.

🙌 As they studied the missional call and got equipped to share their faith, their lives were changed to be on mission in their lives here and however God calls.
