It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Rev. Curley Laster, pastor of Grace (Lockwood) UMC. A faithful servant of Jesus Christ whose ministry and leadership blessed countless lives throughout his years of service. We give thanks to God for his life, his witness, and the many ways he faithfully answered God's call.

The Metro District extends its deepest Christian sympathy to Rev. Laster's family, friends, former congregations, and all who are grieving this significant loss. We ask that you join us in lifting them in prayer, asking God to surround them with His peace, comfort, and strength in the days ahead.

As people of the resurrection, we hold fast to the promise that nothing can separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Well done, good and faithful servant... Enter into the joy of your master. Matthew 25:23

Workshop with Rev. Leroy Barber, pastor and community leader based in Atlanta. Come join us for a transformative workshop focused on how the church can faithfully engage its neighborhood by building relationships, discovering community assets, and becoming a tangible expression of God's love where we live.

Participants will focus on faithful presence, community gifts, and beloved community—learning how to move beyond programs, listen deeply to the neighborhood, recognize God-given assets, and build relationships rooted in hospitality, justice, reconciliation, shared leadership, and love.

Hosted by Legacy UMC in Houston and open to all churches in the TAC. Sheraton Hotel at Brookhollow - 3000 North Loop West (610N and 290) - Houston, TX 77092.

The Metro District's Congregational Excellence Committee is hosting a training event where you will have the opportunity to learn more about:

• Grant Writing
• One Board Model

Each congregation is encouraged to send representatives to attend these trainings and bring the information back to share with the entire congregation. The event will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 21, 2026.
