Hebrew Word #13 Week
08/23/2026

Pronounced: geh-oo-LAH.

Definition:
Redemption; deliverance; the act of a kinsman-redeemer.
Ge’ulah refers to redemption, both spiritually and practically — buying back land, freeing someone from slavery, restoring inheritance, or rescuing a family line.
It comes from the root ג־א־ל (ga’al) meaning to redeem, buy back, act as a kinsman‑redeemer.

Theological Significance:
Rooted in the go'el ( go-EL which means kinsman-redeemer). Ge'ulah describes rescue from within the family — God entering humanity to redeem what was lost.

The act of a kinsman‑redeemer who restores, rescues, or buys back what was lost. In scripture, God is the Redeemer of Israel, and in Messianic faith and Christianty, Yeshua, the Son of God, the promised Messiah is the ultimate Go’el who brings complete redemption to the world.
"Someone paid your price and brought you home.
You were bought back by love."
