From blue to white, the Torahs are ready for the High Holy Days. Saturday night's Selichot service welcomed the season with a packed house and Russell Harrison's moving story of t'shuvah. Cantor Goldman's voice, along with the High Holy Day choir led by Music Director Julie Sacks, filled the sanctuary. 🤍

Watching our children feel the pressure to hide their Judaism is difficult — and watching them find the courage to overcome it makes us all proud.

That tension is part of being Jewish, and it's something we've overcome many times. Jewish history is powerful precisely because it's full of destruction but rebuilding, exile but return, loss but extraordinary renewal — never uninterrupted triumph, never continuous decline.

We've faced adversity before, and we've always come back stronger. Knowing that story can give all of us — even our kids — the courage not to hide.

Music, challah, and happy little feet — join us for Tot Shabbat!
Friday, September 4 | 5:00 PM | Stein Hall

Bring your littlest ones for a short, joyful, sing-along Shabbat service with Rabbi Sarah Fort and Kathleen Holder — made just for toddlers and preschoolers — followed by a relaxed, kid-friendly family dinner where families and friends can gather and welcome Shabbat together.

Tot Shabbat is open to the whole community, so bring a friend! Come for the service, stay for dinner, or do both — there's no cost to attend the service.

Dinner Pricing: $15 (ages 13+) · $10 (kids 5–12) · Free for under 5

Looking for an easy way to meet new people, catch up with friends, and enjoy a little friendly competition? Come on your own or bring a group. We'll have Mahjong and a variety of other games available, or feel free to bring a favorite game from home. Rabbi David Mendelson will even be joining us with one of his favorite board games in hand! On Friday evening, as we welcomed the Shabbat bride, Cantor Rachel Goldman sang Lecha Dodi to the tune of Dolly Parton's "9 to 5," a heartfelt tribute to the beloved singer and philanthropist. There was something beautiful in the pairing: Dolly wrote "9 to 5" as an anthem of dignity and hope for working women, and here it welcomed the Sabbath with that same spirit of joy and love.

Moments like these are what make Shabbat at Beth Yeshurun so special. We're grateful for the creativity Cantor Goldman brings to our services each week. 🕊️
