Houston International Seafarers Centers, Inc.

Houston International Seafarers Centers, Inc. Our mission is supported through partnerships with the maritime industry, Port Houston and the local community.

The Houston International Seafarers Center provides a “home away from home” for seafarers visiting the Port of Houston by meeting their spiritual, social and physical needs through support, assistance and fellowship. These collaborative outreach efforts improve the welfare of seafarers and strengthen their crews, effectively benefiting the companies in which they operate and the consumers who utilize the goods they transport all over the world.

Special delivery: Dad ➡️ Houston International Seafarers Center ➡️ Son 🎁🚢

When a seafarer father, docked in Houston, couldn't access the terminal where his son's ship happened to be docked at the same time, we were happy to bridge the gap and deliver a birthday surprise—one featuring a famous little fruit. 🍎🤩🥳

Proof that sometimes the shortest route between two ships is through us. 🌟

Today we honor the memory of Dean Corgey, a steadfast supporter of seafarers and the maritime industry. Through his work with Seafarers International Union of North America, AFL-CIO, Port Houston, and many maritime organizations, Dean was a tireless advocate for those who work at sea. His continued support helped strengthen our mission and expand our ability to serve seafarers from around the world. We are grateful for his friendship, service, and lasting legacy.

🌊👀 Ever seen a ship floating in the sky? A Fata Morgana is a rare mirage that bends light over the horizon, making ships, coastlines, and islands appear stretched, stacked, or hovering above the water. It's one of the ocean's most fascinating optical illusions—and a sight that has amazed seafarers and others for centuries. ⚓✨

When a seafarer’s girlfriend contacted us on WhatsApp to help celebrate his birthday while he was in port in Houston, we were happy to lend a hand. It was our pleasure to help arrange and deliver flowers and a cake, bringing a little birthday cheer from afar. 🥳🎂🎉

Helping seafarers stay connected to loved ones is at the heart of what we do, and we were honored to play a small part in his special day.

Today, on National Maritime Day, we commemorate the voyage of the SS Savannah, the first steamship to successfully cross the Atlantic Ocean in 1819, and recognize the enduring importance of the maritime industry.

At the Houston International Seafarers Center, we are reminded every day that seafarers are the backbone of global trade, keeping goods, economies, and communities connected around the world. Their dedication and sacrifice make modern life possible. Today, we proudly honor and thank all seafarers for their essential service. ⚓🌎
