Abram and Sarai were very old and had no children. God made a surprising promise that they would have many children and changed their names to Abraham and Sarah.
God said to Abram, “Look toward heaven and count the stars, if you are able to count them. So shall your descendants be.” And he believed the Lord. (Genesis 15:5-6)
If the sky is clear, go outside after dark and look at the moon, stars and planets. Think about each star out there, and how many people are in God’s family with you! When God promised Abram many children, the same stars were shining in the night sky.

"The LORD is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Wait for the LORD; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!"
-Psalm 27: 1, 14.

Trusting in God can make us feel brave, even when things are scary. The Holy Spirit can help us have courage to do what we need to do, or have peace and feel better in our hearts. Talk with your family about the things that make you afraid. Pray for the peace and courage that comes from God.

"O LORD, you have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from far away.
You search out my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. Even before a word is on my tongue, O LORD, you know it completely."
-Psalm 139:1-4.

Be still and close your eyes. Take slow breaths, relax your muscles, listen to your own breathing, and feel peaceful.
"Dear God, we know you are as close as our breath. Thank you for loving us and taking care of us every moment of our lives. Amen."

"So now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you? Only to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments of the LORD your God and his decrees that I am commanding you today."
-Deuteronomy 10:12-13a.

God’s rules, or commandments, in the Bible taught people how to behave. There were rules for all parts of their lives, like how they should worship, how they should use their money, what they should eat, how to take care of others, and what to do to keep other people from getting sick. It was hard to remember them all, but Jesus later reminded people that all of God’s commandments could be followed by loving God very much and loving other people like you love yourself.

Talk about some rules in your family or your school. In what ways do different rules help you show love for God and love for people?

"The same Lord is Lord of all and is generous to all who call on him.
For, 'Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.'" -Romans 10:12b - 13

When we talk about being saved, we think about how God helps us to grow as disciples, and how we will live forever with God in Heaven someday because of God’s love. We can trust in God’s goodness. The Holy Spirit works in our lives to help us become more loving and kind, and to know God better. Look at a globe or pictures of the world. Imagine all the people who are loved by God!
Name the people you love. Give thanks to God for the love shared with family and friends.

"The word is near you, on your lips and in your heart (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); because if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved." -Romans 10:8b-9.
Every Sunday we stand and say the Apostles' Creed together. A creed is a list of things we believe. Christians have said these words for hundreds of years, all around the world, to remind us of the beliefs we have in common as a family. There are a lot of words to understand, but we keep learning what they mean as we grow older. The three most important words are underlined. These describe the Holy Trinity— three ways we know God.
I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth;
And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from
thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Psalm 91:14-16.
Those who love me, I will deliver.
I will protect those who know my name.
When they call to me, I will answer them;
I will be with them in trouble,
I will rescue them and honor them.
With long life I will satisfy them
and show them my salvation.
-Psalm 91:14-16.

We talk about God as the Holy Trinity— God the Father (our Creator), God the Son (Jesus Christ, our Savior), and God the Holy Spirit (our Helper). Do you think of God like a parent, a mighty ruler, a teacher, a friend? We talk about God as being strong like a fortress, caring like a mother bird, and nourishing like food and water. How many names for God can you think of?
Call on God using the name that makes you feel closest to God right now, and share any troubles you have. God may answer in a surprising way, so listen closely!

"He will command his angels concerning you, to protect you. On their hands they will bear you up, so that you will not dash your foot against a stone." - Psalm 91:11-12.
Jesus heard this when he was tempted in the desert, but he knew that it didn’t mean that he should do something dangerous just to test it out. God is always with us and will take care of us, even when bad things happen. Say a prayer asking God to protect people who are in danger and to bring peace to those who feel afraid.
