As early voting is upon us beginning October 13, 2020, Dr. Tammy Smithers, a scholar-activist and believer, and Rev. Dr. Angela Ravin-Anderson, a pastoral leader at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church, collaborated to bring together women. After the presidential debate, The Holy Spirit revealed the vision to Dr. Smithers to align women on one accord in prayer. Being obedient to the Spirit's leading, tog
ether with a few other women, Dr. Smithers consulted with Dr. Ravin-Anderson to birth "The Power of Her Prayer." Despite erasure during Women's Suffrage, Black women remained vigilant. With little to no support and resources, Black women were excluded and reaped little to no benefits. Yet still they preached, formed congregations, and confronted racism and sexism. They prayed, worked, galvanized, fought, stood up for their families, their communities, and their rights. We are the legacy of our foremothers. We salute them for their sacrifice. We honor them in the present. We follow in their footsteps as we recognize the power of prayer for such as a time as this. The Power of Her Prayer event has three components. First, over the course of each day, beginning the first day of early voting (October 13) through Election Day (November 3), their will be 21 women leading a prayer via Facebook Live. The prayer leader will be given access to go live on The Power of Her Prayer online community page. The second component is Supernatural Tuesday Prayers on October 13, 20, and 27 will consist of up two 15-minute prayers by two prayer leaders covering specific topics. Supernatural Tuesday Prayers will be executed via Zoom and also streamed live via FB, and will be recorded and can be shared. The third and final component is an Election Day Prayer-A-Thon to begin at 6AM of November 3 and continue every top of the hour until midnight CST at the close of Election Night.
