WHAT HAPPENED?
In 2023, $5.6 million originally allocated for flood mitigation was redirected to build a 1.8-mile bike lane along Blodgett St. (Ennis → Scott).
The project reduced Blodgett from four lanes to two and installed large concrete medians separating traffic and bike lanes.
Despite strong community opposition, the project moved forward.
WHY THE COMMUNITY IS CONCERNED
🚑 Emergency Access
Concrete barriers and fewer lanes make it difficult for emergency vehicles to navigate traffic.
🚗 Traffic Congestion
Reducing Blodgett from four lanes to two has increased congestion, especially near Texas Southern University and during major events.
🏠 Neighborhood Access
Concrete medians make it difficult for residents, businesses, and churches to enter and exit the area.
THE COMMUNITY’S POSITION
Infrastructure should serve everyone.
The Blodgett bike lane was implemented without meaningful community input and remains largely unused, while residents, students, and businesses face daily safety and access challenges.
Safety First. Community First.
