How can we ever forget what Christ has done for us? Is it even possible to put out of our minds what He suffered so we didn't have to?
He was pierced for us and crushed on our behalf. He took the punishment we all deserve and His death was the source of our healing. May we all be thankful today and every day for what Jesus has done for us!

We live in a "throw-away" society. When it stops working, we toss it.
Somethings we can discard easily. I don't cry over my refrigerator as the junk man takes it away.
But watching someone I love seeming to easily throw away a relationship is heartbreaking.
The concept of a love that is eternal is beyond our comprehension. That's what makes God's eternal love for humanity so amazing. For love to be eternal, it can't be behavior-based, or the first time I mess up, the love would cease.
An eternal love must come from a being that will never cease to exist. So even when my earthly life ends, the love of God for me continues.
The eternal love of God; who can explain it? It's one of those things that we have to accept even though it's beyond our understanding.

We assume this verse is all about financial giving. In the context of when it was written, that's an accurate interpretation.
But it applies more broadly to every resource we possess. Which leads to these probing questions:
* When someone asks for my time, how cheerfully do I give it?
* When someone needs my talents, am I stingy with them?
* Is there any gift God has given me that I reserve for my own personal use, and act like it's off-limits to anyone, including God?

This is one of those verses that we likely memorize before we understand what it means.
Imagine any challenge in your life; what's your first response? Sooner or later, we all tend to choose either to solve it in our own capacity or trust in God by faith to bring it to resolution.
Is that not what Martin Luther meant when he wrote in the hymn "A Mighty Fortress is our God"; "Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing"?
To submit to God is to acknowledge He can see all we can't and to allow Him the space in our lives to work.

How often do you really listen to someone pray? For instance, on Sunday morning, do you pay attention to the content of your pastor's prayer?
Here, Paul shares the content of his prayer for the Philippians. He prays that their love will increase on pace with their growing knowledge and insight.
It's not unusual for love and knowledge to grow at different rates. Love that grows quicker than knowledge can lead to insipid sentimentality. Knowledge that surpasses love can lead to insensitivity to the people in a person's life.
Will you pray this same prayer for yourself and the people in your life? Can you even imagine the transformation that could happen in the entire Christian community grew more loving and more insightful at the same pace?

The realities of growing older make themselves known in not-so-subtle ways. You reach for your phone, and suddenly your back spasms. A trip to the mailbox makes you winded.
It's usually at that point that a person thinks, "I need to get in better shape!"
The next move is a Y- membership or a commitment to walk every day. We understand the value of physical training, especially when we realize that effects of ignoring it.
Do we take the same approach with godliness or training to become more and more like Jesus? Or do we assume it just happens naturally? Training in godliness looks like putting on the full armor of God. And that takes some effort on our part.

The movement from slave or servant to child is the heart of the Christian gospel. It's the point of the Prodigal Son story. He's willing to come back into his father's house as a servant because he doesn't think he's worthy of being a son again.
But the father's response was "I don't need another servant; what I want is my son back."
Have you made the transition from slave to child yet? Are you in that process, right now?
To quote a line from the old hymn "Such Love", "And now He takes me to His heart-- a son, He asks me not to fill a servant's role..."
