“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭1‬:‭27‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2‬:‭10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Our worth as human beings is rooted in how God sees us. He sets the standard. We don’t. Neither for ourselves, nor for other people. Therefore, withholding love from someone simply because they don’t do, say, or act in ways that are a hundred percent pleasing to us is sinful. Period.

None of us has the right or authority to try to control someone else’s being and behavior. That is God’s job. And let’s face reality—we are no better than those we want to control (Romans 3:23).

Jesus paid the highest price possible for each of us. Those who profess faith in Him as Savior are commanded to see others as He sees them. Then, treat them accordingly.

Today, as we remember those who gave their lives for earthly freedom, I am reminded that their sacrifice is just a microcosm of the freedom that we have in Christ. Jesus poured out his life to set us free from our captivity to sin.

The sacrifice of soldiers throughout our nation’s history, while important, only has earthly, temporal consequences. But, the sacrifice of Jesus has eternal consequences. Our bodies on this earth will one day cease. Yet, our souls will live on forever. Jesus died that we might dwell with Him for all eternity.

We trust soldiers with our earthly freedoms. Have you trusted Christ for your eternal freedom?

“Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, and saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭1‬:‭14‬-‭15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, Because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, And recovering of sight to the blind, To set at liberty them that are bruised,”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭4‬:‭18‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭5‬:‭8‬ ‭KJV

“Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5‬:‭1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“But whatever things were gain to me, those things I have counted as loss for the sake of Christ. More than that, I count all things to be loss in view of the surpassing value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them but rubbish so that I may gain Christ, and may be found in Him, not having a righteousness of my own derived from the Law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which comes from God on the basis of faith, that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death; in order that I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.”
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭3‬:‭7‬-‭11‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

He is Risen

“He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Come, see the place where He was lying.”
— Matthew 28:6

“And he said to them, “Do not be amazed; you are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who has been crucified. He has risen; He is not here; behold, the place where they laid Him.”
— Mark 16:6

“but when they entered, they did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. And it happened that while they were perplexed about this, behold, two men suddenly stood near them in dazzling clothing, and when the women were terrified and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living One among the dead? He is not here, but He has risen. Remember how He spoke to you while He was still in Galilee,”
— Luke 24:3-6

“And the two were running together; and the other disciple ran ahead faster than Peter and came to the tomb first; and stooping and looking in, he saw the linen wrappings lying there; but he did not go in. And so Simon Peter also came, following him, and entered the tomb; and he saw the linen wrappings lying there, and the face-cloth which had been on His head, not lying with the linen wrappings, but folded up in a place by itself. So the other disciple who had first come to the tomb then also entered, and he saw and believed.”
— John 20:4-8

“Now I make known to you, brothers, the gospel which I proclaimed as good news to you, which also you received, in which also you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast the word which I proclaimed to you as good news, unless you believed for nothing.
For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,”
— 1 Corinthians 15:1-4

I’m thankful to the Lord on this Easter Sunday that our Hope in Him was sealed by His rising from the dead. While His death satisfied God’s wrath on sinners, Christ’s resurrection sealed the final defeat of death; granting eternal life to those who believe on His name. He could declare the work finished as He died on the cross because He knew death could not hold Him.

Remembrance of this is what Easter is all about. Happy Easter.

HE IS RISEN!

Good Friday: The Cross

“Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would be fighting so that I would not be delivered over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not from here.” Therefore Pilate said to Him, “So You are a king?” Jesus answered, “You yourself said I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.” Pilate said to Him, “What is truth?”
And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews and said to them, “I find no guilt in Him. But you have a custom that I release someone for you at the Passover; do you wish then that I release for you the King of the Jews?” So they cried out again, saying, “Not this man, but Barabbas.” Now Barabbas was a robber.”
— John 18:36-40

“Now it was the third hour, and they crucified Him.”
— Mark 15:25

“But Jesus was saying, “Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.””
— Luke 23:34a

“Therefore when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.”
— John 19:30

“And Joseph took the body and wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock; and he rolled a large stone against the entrance of the tomb and went away.”
— Matthew 27:59-60

Jesus, an innocent Man, has been tried, convicted and sentenced to die. Now, this seems tragic. But what we should remember is that, regardless of how this might look from a worldly perspective, Jesus willingly laid down His life.

That’s what makes observing a day when a Man died by crucifixion “good”. From a biblical perspective, the truth is Jesus laid down His life as the punishment for our sin. There was/is no other way for us to be reconciled to God, and spend eternity in His presence.

Repent and believe the gospel.

Last Things Before the Cross

“Jesus spoke these things; and lifting up His eyes to heaven, He said, “Father, the hour has come; glorify Your Son, that the Son may glorify You, even as You gave Him authority over all flesh, that to all whom You have given Him, He may give eternal life. And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”
— John 17:1-3

“Now while they were eating, Jesus took some bread, and after a blessing, He broke it. And giving it to the disciples, He said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you; for this is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for forgiveness of sins.”
— Matthew 26:26-28

I’m amazed as I look at some of the last things Jesus did before finishing His Work on earth. His prayer for the disciples and for all future believers; His ushering in a new Passover ordinance (which we know as the Lord’s Supper or Communion); just to name a couple. Amazing.

Jesus’s love for us knows no bounds. Otherwise, there would be no need for Him to lay down His life.

Moving Toward the Cross

“Therefore understand that the Lord your God is not giving you this good land to possess because of your righteousness, for you are a stiff-necked people.”
‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭9‬:‭6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“And Jesus entered the temple and began to drive out those who were selling, saying to them, “It is written, ‘And My house shall be a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a robbers’ den.””
— Luke 19:45-46

Centuries after Moses gave instructions to the children of Israel concerning the land the Lord was giving them, Jesus was still dealing with their rebellion in that very land. Nevermind the fact that He was the very hope that they were looking for.

This temple-clearing was a brief stop on Jesus’s way to His ultimate, planned destination. The cross.

He was going for His people. But He was also going for you and me.

Do we believe it?

Palm Sunday

“And as they were untying the c**t, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the c**t?” And they said, “The Lord has need of it.” And they brought it to Jesus, and after they threw their garments on the c**t, they put Jesus on it. And as He was going, they were spreading their garments on the road. Now as soon as He was approaching, near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to praise God, rejoicing with a loud voice for all the miracles which they had seen, saying,
“Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord.
Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!””
— Luke 19:33-38

“But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭3‬:‭3‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

“He who speaks truth declares righteousness, But a false witness, deceit. There is one who speaks like the piercings of a sword, But the tongue of the wise promotes health. The truthful lip shall be established forever, But a lying tongue is but for a moment.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭12‬:‭17‬-‭19‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
