Three Servants home with Jesus - We stay in the the harvest.
(May’s Newsletter)
This week, the jail ministry has the honor of recognizing three faithful servants who have recently gone home to be with the Lord: Robert Stringer, Scooter, and Kandi Rose. They were faithful workers who finished their race and are now in the presence of the Lord who they so faithfully served.
THREE SERVANTS HOME WITH JESUS – WE STAY IN THE HARVEST
Thank you for supporting the Garland County Jail Ministry. Your kindness and generosity are making a real difference in the lives of those who need it most. Through your faithful and generous support, men and women who once felt lost and forgotten are now hearing the Gospel, giving them a newfound hope, forgiveness, and a new life in Christ.
Seven days a week, lives are being touched, saved, and transformed behind those walls. Hearts are being conditioned/softened, faith is being found or restored, smiles and laughs are being shown, and detainees are discovering that no one is beyond God’s loving grace. Your faithful and generous support is making an eternal impact. Thank you for supporting the Garland County Jail Ministry!
This month, I had the newsletter done, ready to be stuffed in the envelopes and was led to start by the Lord to start over. As the ministry experienced the loss of another Saint, I felt it was time to recognize all three of them. This is the most heart aching newsletter I have ever written. I put it off as long as I could. Didn’t mean any disrespect to anyone. I just could not get myself to do it. Starting from the most recent:
Robert Stringer: New Address – 777 Praise and Worship Drive, Heaven
I met Robert Stringer a little over eight years ago at the detention center, where he worked in maintenance. Not long after I started volunteering, he told me he sang praise and worship, wrote his own music, and created his own backing tracks. At that time, I wasn’t in a position to help, but once I became Chaplain, he quickly reminded me again.
I told him, once the ministry was more established and running smoothly, we would revisit the idea. During that time, he would often stop by my office, smile, and say, “I’m ready when you are.” He understood I was busy building the ministry, but he never stopped being willing. That is who Robert was. He was always wanting to do more.
Once we had enough teachers and everything was running well, we finally started praise and worship. It didn’t take long before all the detainees in different housing units asking, “When y’all coming back?” They absolutely loved it.
I truly believe Robert found a new joy in coming to work because of how much the detainees loved him. He quickly became the most loved maintenance worker there. I remember one day he was on a ladder fixing a light and a detainee asked him about Jesus. Robert stopped what he was doing, set his tools down, and took the time to answer every question he could. At that moment, he cared more about that man’s eternal life than finishing his job.
Robert was a true servant of the Lord. He let his light shine brightly among the detainees. He is deeply missed at the detention center, and my wife and I miss him tremendously. Not a day goes by that I don’t think of him.
Praise and worship will continue soon. I will not let what he started fade away. It has proven to be a powerful tool in reaching the lost.
Robert went home to the Lord on April 14, 2026.
“Scooter” James Richard: 777 Faithful Servant Drive, Heaven
I knew Scooter for about five years, and he was a true faithful servant of Christ. He faithfully attended Glazypeau Church and Garland County Jail Ministry every Monday night. He rarely missed if ever.
There are many memories I have of Scooter, but one stands out the most. Scooter was a big man, yet very humble. One night at church, Pastor Derwin asked him to pray over the scriptures before starting the service. Scooter stood up, stepped into the aisle, dropped to one knee before the altar, and prayed. I remember thinking, “What an honorable way to show love and respect to the Lord.” It was powerful and I will never forget that moment.
Scooter built strong and lasting relationships with the detainees. They truly loved him. His classes were always full, and he would always be excited to share the attendance numbers with a big smile on his face knowing he had us beat. I miss seeing that big smile and his loving, genuine presence. Scooter was a lot of fun to serve with. He led many men to the Lord at the detention center.
He was a good man and a faithful servant. Scooter, you are missed, and we will see you again when the Lord calls us home.
Scooter went home to the Lord on March 26, 2026.
Kandi Rose: Come to the Altar Blvd., Heaven
I knew Kandi for nearly ten years, and it was truly an honor to serve alongside her. She was full of passion for the Lord.
Decades back, Kandi openly struggled with addiction but that gave her a strong ability to connect with the detainees. They knew she understood their struggles, and because of that, they listened closely when she spoke.
She spoke with a gentle and loving voice, but also with boldness and authority when sharing God’s Word. She had a special way of reaching people’s hearts.
Kandi never ended a class without giving people the opportunity for salvation or rededication. The number of souls she led to the Lord is something only heaven can fully count. I can only imagine. She was truly one of the Lord’s Generals. She also had a television program that reached people around the world, focusing on breaking spiritual strongholds. Kandi brought so much joy and energy wherever she went. She is deeply missed.
