Imagine standing at the gates of heaven and being asked, “Why should we let you in?”

The thief on the cross couldn’t point to a lifetime of good works. He hadn’t been baptized. He had no opportunity to clean up his past or prove that he deserved to be there.

His hope was found in one place: the Man on the middle cross.

That’s the heart of the gospel. Our hope isn’t in what we’ve accomplished for God, but in what Jesus accomplished for us through His death and resurrection.

Salvation isn’t something we earn. Jesus is the reason we can be reconciled to God.

Jesus isn’t asking to be one priority among many.

Colossians 1 reveals exactly who He is: the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation, the One through whom and for whom everything was created. Jesus is before all things, and everything holds together in Him.

That means Christ doesn’t simply belong somewhere on our list of priorities. He is supreme over everything.

So the question becomes personal: Is Jesus truly first in your life?

Because if He’s not first, He’s last.
