Thought đź’ of the Day: Forgetting the Things Which Are Behind you!
I want to revisit this scripture in Philippians 3:13-14 when the apostle Paul under the inspiration of the Holy Ghost says “Brethren, ( brothers and sisters in christ) I count not myself ( when I look back over my life and consider all my experiences ) I can’t testify that I have apprehended ( or gained the mastery in all things) : but this one thing I ( strive to) do, ( and that is ) forgetting those things which are behind me, ( it doesn’t mean, I forget everything because I remember the lessons that God taught me. I remember the things he has brought me out of. I remember all the prayers He answered and the victories he has given me.) but what I don’t do is “I don’t live in the past”, and I don’t hold on to unforgiveness or anything that God desires for me to let go of because I must stay free,) (so I can keep ) reaching forth (working and striving to obtain all ) those things which ( God has laid ) before (me) So I press ( I pray, I work, I push, I fight ) ( always moving ) towards the mark ( the place that God has called me to be in and the things that God has called me to do) for the prize ( the accomplishment, the achievement, the rewards ) of the high calling ( the individual specific call upon each and everyone of our lives ) of God ( by Almighty God, my heavenly father ) in Christ Jesus.”
When Paul says he has not “apprehended” the original Greek word is katalambano, meaning to lay hold of something until it becomes your own personal possession. Paul honestly admits that when he looks back over his life, he has not mastered all things. Yet, he locks his focus onto one singular pursuit.
When he says "forgetting," he does not mean a loss of memory but rather that He remembers the lessons, the deliverance, and the answered prayers. In Hebrew, the concept of memory is zakar—which means to recall past actions in a way that influences the present. We remember God’s faithfulness, but we must actively choose to disconnect from the emotional weight of past failures, trauma and hurts . We must refuses to live in the past. We must refuse to stay bound to what God has already delivered us from and brought us out of.
Instead, the Apostle Paul says he is "reaching forth." The Greek word here is epekteinomai, which describes a runner straining every muscle, leaning forward with intense effort toward the finish line. This is the holy momentum of faith. We see this same forward movement in Isaiah 43:18-19, where God declares, “Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth.”
Therefore, we "press"—the Greek dioko, meaning to pursue swiftly or to catch a prize. We pray, we work, we push, and we fight, always moving toward the mark. This mark is our divine destination. The prize is the "high calling"—the ano klesis—the ultimate, upward invitation that Almighty God has specifically designed for your life in Christ Jesus.
In this very season of your life, God is instructing you to close your ears to the voices of impossibility. Silence the echoes of your past that try to call you back into hiding, fear, and spiritual bo***ge. Revelation 3:8 reminds us that God sets before us an open door that no man can shut. It is time to close old, unproductive doors and step through the new, effective ones He has opened for you.
This is a season of divine accomplishment. This is your time to write new chapters, reshape your narrative, and walk into the victorious and "expected end" promised in Jeremiah 29:11. God wants you to RESET and REEVALUATE. Set new goals, pursue the vision, fulfill your dreams, and embrace fresh endeavors with unwavering faith.
Do not fear what you have to let go of, or who you must leave behind. Walking away from the things God is telling you to let go of gives you strength to press on!
Stepping out of the wrong places and Letting go of the wrong things always creates room for the right things to arrive.
So Today, I encourage you to step into the absolute fullness of your divine destiny. Leave the past pains, failures, mistakes, and wrong decisions behind you. Take this strategic time to embrace the word of God!, the miracles, healings, joy, prosperity, and victories that God has laid out before you. Let the Holy Ghost lead you into all truth and guide you into Gods perfect will! Brethren, this is your season of Chadesh—the Hebrew concept of renewal and restoration. It is your time to move forward and accomplish everything God has engineered and created for you to do. Forget what is behind, stretch out for what is ahead, and keep walking by faith. Great things are about to manifest if you just keep moving forward!
God bless you,
Bishop Melvin L. Sanchez
