Where I Will Take My Stand

There comes a time when every person must decide where he will take his stand. The world is full of people who “go along to get along.” They don’t want to offend anyone or be viewed as different, so they simply drift with the crowd. But faithful Christians cannot do that. Our Lord said, “He that is not with me is against me” (Matthew 12:30). There is no middle ground. In every generation, God’s people have had to stand up for truth, often in the face of ridicule or persecution. Noah stood alone in a corrupt world (Genesis 6). Daniel stood firm in Babylon (Daniel 6). Peter and John stood before hostile rulers and declared, “We ought to obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29). The apostle Paul took his stand firmly for the Lord. He wrote, “I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation” (Romans 1:16). We, too, must decide where we will stand. Will we stand with the Bible - even when it condemns popular practices? Will we stand for moral purity when the world laughs at decency? Will we stand with faithful brethren, even when some others grow weary and fall away? Taking a stand for truth is not always comfortable, but it is always right. Paul urged, “Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong” (1 Corinthians 16:13). The Lord needs men and women of conviction - people who will not be swayed by convenience, pressure, or fear. Let each of us resolve: ‘This is where I will take my stand - with God, with His Word, and with His people. No matter what the world does, no matter who else may compromise, I will stand with the Lord.’

Are You Ready For School?

Being ready for school requires more than finding your backpack. It means preparing ahead, arriving on time, bringing materials, and entering the classroom ready to learn. Students who prepare are less distracted by forgotten assignments and better able to receive the instruction their teachers have planned. Scripture connects preparation with dependence on God: “Commit your works to Yahweh and your plans will be established” (Proverbs 16:3).
Our spiritual lives require greater readiness. Jesus said, “For this reason you also must be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour when you do not think He will” (Matthew 24:44). Christ’s return is unknown, so following Him cannot wait until life feels convenient.

How do we do this? Well, we prepare by trusting Jesus, reading God’s Word, praying, confessing sin, and obeying Scripture. These practices train our attention toward God and keep His priorities before us. The psalmist declared, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105). God’s Word helps us recognize truth, resist temptation, and choose wisely in every new situation.

Paul instructed Timothy, “Be ready in season and out of season” (2 Timothy 4:2). A prepared Christian is ready to speak truth, show kindness, encourage a classmate, and honor Christ wherever an opportunity appears.

Each school morning a student should ask, “Is my mind ready to learn? Is my heart ready to serve?”. We make sure to pack our books, set our alarms and finish our work. But more importantly, we must prepare our souls. School readiness matters for today; spiritual readiness matters for eternity. Let each morning remind you to be ready to meet and serve the Lord faithfully.

Things You Cannot Do Without Fellowship

In life, there are certain things you cannot do without required components or ingredients. For instance, you can’t bake real bread without yeast or turn on a light without a power source. Also, you can’t grow a garden without planting some seeds and you can’t play football, baseball, or golf without a ball. When it comes to spiritual growth, both as individuals and as the church, there are elements required to move forward toward maturity. One such ingredient to a full and abundant life as a disciple of Christ is fellowship. Simply defined, fellowship is a group of people who enjoy companionship and have the same purpose. To please the Lord, there are things He demands we do. However, there are certain commands we cannot keep unless we have fellowship with His people.

For instance, without fellowship:
• You Cannot Inspire One Another to Love and Good Works (Hebrews 10:24)
• You Cannot Exhort One Another Daily (Hebrews 3:13)
• You Cannot Show Hospitality (Romans 12:13; 1 Peter 4:9)
• You Cannot Have All Things in Common (Acts 2:44, 4:32)
• You Cannot Greet One Another with a Holy Kiss (Romans 16:16; 1 Cor. 16:20)
• You Cannot Restore the Wandering Sinner (James 5:19-20)
• You Cannot Show Kind and Brotherly Affection to One Another (Romans 12:10)
• You Cannot Receive One Another as Christ Received Us (Romans 15:7)
• You Cannot Through Love Serve One Another (Galatians 5:13)
• You Cannot Bear with One Another in Love (Ephesians 4:2)
• You Cannot be Sympathetic nor Rejoiceful with One Another (Romans 12:15)
• You Cannot Speak to One Another in Psalms and Hymns (Eph. 5:19; Col. 3:16)
• You Cannot Comfort One Another (1 Thess. 4:18)
• You Cannot Edify (Build Up) One Another (1 Thess. 5:11)
• You Cannot Pray Together for One Another (James 5:16)
• You Cannot Show Compassion for One Another (1 Peter 3:8)
• You Cannot Minister to One Another (1 Peter 4:10)
• You Cannot Walk in the Light with Christ & One Another (1 John 1:7)
