St. Mark's Episcopal Church - Hope, AR

St. Mark’s celebrates Holy Communion at 9:00 a.m. each Sunday. He invites us to His table when we gather in His name. Coffee hour following the service. But St.

Potluck brunch on the 4th Sunday of each month. At first glance, St. Mark’s is a quaint little church that happens to be located in downtown Hope, Arkansas. The church was built in 1904 and is much the same today as it was when it was first built. Mark’s is not only about the sticks and stones, it is about the people that are there, past and present. Though we are small, we are a progressive, open

-minded Episcopal congregation. We strive to seek Christ in every person around us, and to respect the dignity of every human being. Episcopalians base their beliefs on the Bible, reason, and our traditions. We believe that the Bible is the inspired word of God and that it contains all things necessary for our salvation. We also believe that God has given us the gift of reason in order to read and understand those scriptures and apply them to our modern lives. Episcopalians do not turn off their brains when they come to church. Finally, our tradition, as inherited from our Anglican roots, helps shape our identity. It can be seen in our Prayer Book, in our corporate worship style, and in our theology. At St. Mark’s, all people are welcome to attend Sunday services and all are invited to partake in the Eucharist. We are a place where you can connect with God. Lord, have mercy.

And from the Collects on page 825:
Lord Christ, when you came among us, you proclaimed the kingdom of God in villages, towns, and lonely places.: Grant that your presence and power may be known throughout this land. Have mercy on all of us who live and work in rural areas (especially Hempstead County); and grant that all the people of our nation may give thanks to you for food and drink and all other bodily necessities of life, respect those who labor to produce them, and honor the land and the water from which these things come. All this we ask in your holy Name. Amen.

The Rev. Michael Mitchell will be with us tomorrow, this last Sunday in August. The service begins at 9:00 a.m. Join us for coffee after the service. If you would like to visit with The Rev. Michael, he will be here every Sunday and Wednesday until 5 p.m. Let’s all welcome him to Hope and show him our community!

Collect of the Day: Lord of all power and might, the author and giver of all good things: Graft in our hearts the love of your Name; increase in us true religion; nourish us with all goodness; and bring forth in us the fruit of good works; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Fourteen downtown Hope businesses were represented today at Hope Downtown Network’s Downtown Revitalization Mini Grant Session!

Mark Miller with Main Street Arkansas walked potential applicants through the grant process and explained how these funds can support meaningful improvements to downtown buildings and businesses.

Following the session, Mark and Beckie walked throughout downtown, visiting business owners who had requested one-on-one guidance pertaining to their project ideas.

These mini grants represent far more than fresh paint, repaired storefronts, or interior improvements. They represent local investment, business growth, historic preservation, renewed pride, and long-term progress for Downtown Hope!

Thanks to funding from Main Street Arkansas and Hope Downtown Network, $12,000 will be awarded through Downtown Revitalization Mini Grants. HDN is excited to see the ideas, energy, and transformation these opportunities will inspire!

This is what revitalization looks like: business owners investing in their properties, partners providing resources and expertise, and a community working together to build a stronger downtown, one project at a time!

Downtown Hope is moving forward—and today’s turnout proves it! ❤️

Today on the Diocesan calendar we pray for St. Mark’s. To quote The Rev. Michael Mitchell, “ We pray for God to send us the people who need us and for those whom we need.”

If you are down on your luck, down in your spirits, joyful, thankful, or just making it day to day, we pray for you. We hope to be able to minister to you and help you develop a deeper relationship with our Lord, who loves you no matter what.

If you are in town this weekend for the Hope Watermelon Festival, 🍉🍉🍉🍉we at St. Mark’s welcome you to Hope and we invite you to join us for Holy Communion on Sunday morning at 9:00 a.m. at Third and Elm Street in Downtown Historic Hope. After the service, we’d love to visit with you over coffee in the Parish Hall.
