One of the greatest joys of a bishop is to ordain someone to the priesthood.
Because in that moment, you see the love of God become visible.
In a world that sometimes asks, “Does God still care?” an ordination is God’s quiet answer: “I am still here. I have not abandoned my people.”
Every new priest is not just fulfilling a dream—it is a gift to the Church, a sign that God continues to call, trust, and send.
For a bishop, it is also humbling. You realize you are not creating a priest—you are simply confirming a vocation that God has already planted.
And there is deep hope in that moment:
that this priest will love with a shepherd’s heart, remain faithful in trials, and lead many to Christ.
But perhaps the greatest joy is this:
Long after we are gone, the mission continues—the Eucharist will be celebrated, the Word proclaimed, the wounded healed.
And somewhere, a priest will stand at the altar…and Christ will still be present for His people.
