www.crosscreekchurch.net We began with 25 adults and 20 children in 2009, with our first Worship Service on September 13, 2009.

Cross Creek Church is an evangelical Christian church in Birmingham, Alabama, serving both Birmingham and Hoover. We have now grown to over 225 people, including 85 youth and children, and are learning to grow, live, and serve as part of Cross Creek Church.

Pray this week for a church planter serving in India with the Presbyterian Church of India. He is working in several villages through church planting, conducting worship services, and engaging in evangelism with the hope of establishing new churches.

Pray for God’s provision for places where believers can gather to worship, including land, buildings, and practical needs that support worship. Pray that the Lord would raise up faithful leaders and helpers to serve alongside him as the ministry continues to grow. Pray for spiritual growth among believers, strength and guidance for pastors and leaders, and good health for the church planter and his family as they serve.

We kicked off our Wednesday night activities last night with our first Connect Night where parents heard from our children's and youth ministry leaders about Fall vision and plans, adults heard more about the Wednesday Men's and Women's groups, and our kids and students headed to their own groups.

We'd love for you to join us next week as we begin our regular weekly Creek Midweek schedule:

Pray this week for David & Jordan Fleming. The Flemings are missionaries with SIM and moved to Senegal in 2023. Their team’s goal is to reach the Wolof people with the gospel. The Flemings first term in country has been focused on learning the Wolof language, adjusting to the culture, building relationships for gospel sharing, and settling into life as a family of 4.

Praise God for sustaining them during their first term in Senegal and for the growth He has worked in them. Pray for God’s help as they transition back to Senegal for their second term, including continued language learning and the start of ESL outreach ministry. Pray that God would provide a long-term home and meet their ongoing needs as they continue serving.

All are invited to join us next Wednesday night for the first of three Wednesday "Connect" nights planned for the coming school year. Come out to enjoy grilled burgers, hot dogs, and sides.

After dinner, the evening begins with a short time of musical worship and prayer, including a song the kids have learned this summer at Kids' Club. Then:

* Children and youth will then head to their groups
* Parents will gather for about 30 minutes to hear from our children's and youth ministry leaders about Fall vision and plans.
* Anyone interested can hear more about the Wednesday Men's and Women's groups
* Everyone is welcome to stay and fellowship.

Pray this week for Stephen & Kellie Merwin. Stephen and Kellie both grew up in Georgia, dreaming of being missionaries. Following God’s leading, they met as teammates teaching ESL in China for a year as adventurous, world-changing college students. They walked away from that experience with a love for the Chinese and a growing love for each other that continues to this day. They happily spent their first three years of marriage in Birmingham, and then in 2003 they returned to China to raise a family and join in God’s kingdom work there.

In January of 2020 the Merwin family went to a week-long conference in Thailand, right as the coronavirus began to spread. They never made it back home. Instead, God brought them to the States to renew their call to reach the nations by ministering to international students at the University of Alabama at Birmingham with Reformed University Fellowship International.

Praise God for the many students connecting through weekly Dinner and Discussions and for spiritual growth among international believers. Pray that their friendships with students would lead to gospel conversations and deeper understanding of Scripture. Pray that Stephen and Kellie would rely on the power of the Holy Spirit as they serve and that God would continue to provide for the needs of their ministry.

Our men enjoyed their Fall Kickoff Pancake Breakfast yesterday morning and had an opportunity to connect with other men in the church through food and fellowship and to hear about opportunities to connect this Fall.

This Sunday, Pastor Chris will begin a new sermon series, "Living Our Faith - The Book of James". We hope you'll join us for worship at 10:30 and stick around for fellowship and Kona Ice after worship!

During the 9:30 hour, kids will move up to their new classes, and adults have two new Sunday School Discipleship Classes to choose from:

* The People and Movements Shaping American Church History

Women, you're invited to join us for our Women's Ministry Fall Kickoff Dinner on Monday, August 17. This will be a free, catered meal. In addition to enjoying good food together, we'll get to know each other better and hear about opportunities to grow in truth, live in community, and serve in the kingdom this fall. High school girls are welcome to attend.
