Chaplain Mallek at Aloha Jewish Chapel Chaplain Rabbi Ryan Mandel Mallek, LT, CHC, USN is the Division Officer and Staff Chaplain at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam Chaplain Rabbi Ryan M.

Mallek, CHC, USN arrived at JBPHH at the beginning of December 2023 and is looking forward to enriching Jewish life at the Aloha Jewish Chapel and at the Joint Base as a whole. Before arriving at Pearl Harbor, Chaplain Mallek was the Rabbi of the Jewish Congregation of Maui in Hawaii. His first pulpit was in the Shorashim Village in the Galilee where he served as the Masorti (Conservative) Rabbi f

or the Misgav Municipality (2019-2021). He specializes in interreligious dialogue and served as the Israeli Society Representative to the International Reference Group of the World Council of Churches and as advisor to the board of directors of Rabbis for Human Rights. Rabbi Mallek received ordination as a Dayan in 2019 from the Integral Halakhah Institute. His Rabbinical Ordination and Master of Jewish Studies is from the Schechter Seminary and Institute in Jerusalem. During his studies, Raanan was an interreligious scholar and event coordinator for the Tantur Ecumenical Institute for three years. His certification in facilitation and negotiation is from the Conflict Resolution, Management and Negotiation Graduate Program of Bar Ilan University. In addition, Raanan has a Master of Jewish Education from Hebrew College.

On International Holocaust Remembrance Day, we pause to remember the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust, alongside the millions of other victims of Nazi terror: Roma, LGBTQI+ people, Slavs, individuals with disabilities, and many more. This date, marking the liberation of Auschwitz in 1945, stands as a permanent warning of where hatred, dehumanization, and silence can lead.

This year, our remembrance is shaped by a painful and sobering moment in our own time. Yesterday, the IDF recovered and brought home the body of Ran Gvili z"l, the last fallen hostage from the Hamas attacks of October 7, 2023. With his return, a devastating chapter of this war comes to a close. Not with relief, but with grief, responsibility, and resolve.

The end of a war does not end memory. On the contrary, it sharpens our obligation to carry it forward.

Remembering the Holocaust is not only about honoring the past; it is about recognizing the consequences of unchecked hatred in the present, and refusing to allow Jewish suffering, past or current, to be minimized, distorted, or forgotten.

Today, we remember. We mourn. And we reaffirm our commitment to Jewish memory, dignity, and moral responsibility, across generations and across the world.
