Today, we give thanks for the people whose work keeps our communities going.

For farmers and ranchers, teachers and school staff, healthcare workers and first responders. For those who work in shops, offices, kitchens, factories, fields, and job sites. For work that is visible and work that too often goes unnoticed.

Labor Day reminds us that there is dignity in work—and that behind the work are people who deserve rest, respect, fairness, and gratitude.

As people of faith, we believe our worth comes not from how much we produce, but from the God who created us and calls us beloved.

Even God rested.

May this day remind us that both our work and our rest can be holy. Today, we give thanks to God for the work of our hands, for those who came before us and worked for better conditions for generations to come, and for the gift of rest when we are able to receive it.

To all who labor in Honey Grove and beyond: thank you for the ways your work helps our community flourish. Happy Labor Day from McKenzie United Methodist Church! ❤️🤍💙

We start this Wednesday!

This Wednesday at 6pm, we’re beginning Questions Jesus Asked, a new Wednesday Night Bible Study at McKenzie UMC.

Throughout the fall, we’ll spend time with some of the questions Jesus asked—and what happens when we let those questions speak to us, too.

Come for Shepherd’s Supper beforehand, then stay and join the conversation at 6pm.

You don’t have to be a McKenzie member. You don’t have to know your way around the Bible. And you definitely don’t have to have all the answers.

Questions are kind of the point.

This week, Shepherd’s Supper looked a little different!

With the Annex under construction, Patti Hicks opened her home to our Shepherd’s Supper crew—and they got to work.

Even without our usual kitchen and dining room, this incredible team prepared and served more than 60 delivery meals and over 30 to-go meals for our neighbors.

That’s more than 90 meals made, packed, delivered, and handed out from Patti’s house!

A huge thank you to Patti for opening her home, and to every volunteer who cooked, packed meals, made deliveries, served our to-go guests, and helped make sure construction didn’t stop us from feeding our community.

The location may have changed for a week, but the mission didn’t. ❤️

Jesus asked a lot of questions.

“Who do you say that I am?”
“What do you want me to do for you?”
“Why are you afraid?”
“Do you want to be made well?”

Sometimes Jesus answered questions. But often, he asked them—and the questions invited people to think, wrestle, wonder, and see things differently.

Beginning Wednesday, September 9th at 6pm, we’re starting a new Wednesday Night Bible Study at McKenzie UMC: Questions Jesus Asked.

Each week, we’ll take a closer look at one of the questions Jesus asked, the story surrounding it, and what that question might still be asking of us today.

And since we’re already together on Wednesday nights, the timing is easy: come by for Shepherd’s Supper, then stick around for Bible study at 6pm!

This isn’t just for McKenzie members. Everyone is welcome. You don’t need to be a Bible expert, and you definitely don’t need to have all the answers. Just come ready to join the conversation.

Shepherd’s Supper is still on this Wednesday — we’re just doing things a little differently!

With the Annex under construction, our regular meal deliveries will happen as usual this week. For our neighbors who normally join us for dine-in, we’ll have to-go meals available for pickup beginning at 5pm on Wednesday, September 2nd.

This week’s menu is hot dogs, chips, and cookies, ready to pick up and take with you!

As always, Shepherd’s Supper is free and open to everyone in our community. To-go meals will be available until we run out.

Construction may change where we eat this week, but it won’t keep us from feeding our neighbors. ❤️

Pardon our mess — we’re making some improvements!

This week, the Annex at McKenzie UMC will be under construction as we replace the flooring throughout the building.

The Annex sees a lot of life each week — meals shared around tables, Sunday School, community ministries, meetings, and plenty of good conversation — and we’re excited to make this much-needed improvement to a space that serves our church and our neighbors so well!

Construction will mean a few adjustments to our normal schedule this week, but our ministries are still happening! Keep an eye on our page for details, including a special to-go Shepherd’s Supper this Wednesday.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to care for the spaces that make so much ministry possible — and we can’t wait to show you the finished floors!
