Good news from Hawaii County Civil Defense!

The core of Nolo will keep to our south so some of the probabilities have decreased! But, it’s a big storm so we’re still gonna see lots of rain and wind in areas.

Nolo is still moving slowly and heaviest impacts are expected late Friday into Saturday.

Wind probabilities have decreased - Kea'au through Ocean View areas and North Kohala can expect max winds of 58-73mph; the rest of the island can expect max winds of 39-57mph.

Rainfall probabilities have decreased too! Laupahoehoe to South point can expect between 8-15" and a little higher Mt. View to Volcano. West side can expect between 1-3".

Aloha and good morning. From Daifukuji Soto Mission we send out our warmest and biggest mahalo. Our online auction raised approximately $14,000. It was a successful fundraiser, thanks to the support, love, kokua, donations, and good wishes of our many sangha members, community supporters, and friends. With palms together in "gassho," we bow deeply in gratitude.
With the storm approaching, out of concern for everyone's safety, the pick up of auction winnings will be happening next weekend on Oct. 3 & 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Our mini rummage sale has also been moved to next weekend.
Dear friends, please take care and stay safe. Dharma blessings to all from Daifukuji.

Civil defense update:

Kakahiaka nō!

Sharing some info from this mornings update. Please share with your Ohana - information is power and it will help everyone to be calm and prepared.

Tropical Storm Nolo is expected to become a Category 1 hurricane today. A Hurricane Warning will likely be issued later today.

The rain threat remains the same. Flooding is imminent across the island. Expect up to 30 inches in some windward areas but average rainfall will be between 5-15 inches. Concern remains about the system stalling and/or moving slowly keeping the rain over us and increasing chances of flooding.

The closest approach and heaviest effects are expected Friday night into Saturday morning. It's important to note that even if the eye of the storm does not hit Hawaii Island, the wind field covers the entire island.

At the peak of it, Ka’u can likely expect up to 110mph winds. Captain Cook to Volcano can expect 74-110mph winds
The rest of the island can expect up 58-74mph winds.

Please stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary to allow road crews and emergency services to do their thing.
