💡 Faith in Education at work!

Thanks to a 2024 Faith in Education grant, students at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School in Homewood are benefiting from their new "Healthy Hallway," a sensory experience that helps students in primary grades foster development in foundational academic and motor skills—an opportunity that would not have been possible through the regular school budget.

For the past three years, Faith in Education has partnered with our schools to strengthen safety, enrich curriculum, and support students’ individual needs. Each grant is a reminder that your generosity is transforming classrooms right here in our diocese.

Emma Tafazoli recently joined OLS School as our new 7th-grade teacher. She attended Catholic school from an early age, going to Sacred Heart for elementary school and Saint Bernard for high school in North Alabama. Originally from Cullman, she later moved to Madison before settling in Birmingham for college.
Miss Tafazoli earned her degree in Mathematics with a minor in STEM Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Before joining us, she taught 7th-grade math at McAdory Middle School. At OLS School, she now teaches 7th and 8th-grade Science and 7th-grade Math. She says she is excited to be part of our strong, faith-based community that inspires and supports both students and staff in every aspect of life. In her spare time, she loves being outdoors, whether it’s hiking along a trail or kayaking on the water. She’s also creative at heart and enjoys spending time drawing and painting. Psalm 139:14 is Miss Tafazoli’s favorite Bible verse. It states: "I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful; I know that full well." If she were to give one piece of advice to her students, it would be: “Learning is a process that you will come into in your own time. Don’t stress about feeling inadequate if something doesn’t come easily to you.”
