Join us in prayer for people in Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti and the Dominican Republic as they prepare for Hurricane Melissa.

Melissa is a Category 5 storm and is expected to have a catastrophic impact on Jamaica, with up to 30 inches of rain and a 13-foot storm surge predicted. Significant flooding and damage from Melissa have already occurred in Haiti and the Dominican Republic, with additional impacts expected in both countries and in Cuba. We pray especially for Haiti, as Melissa’s impact will worsen the hunger crisis experienced by more than half of the country.

As the needs of those impacted by Hurricane Melissa become clear over the coming days, UMCOR is prepared to support the response efforts of our Methodist partners in Jamaica and the Caribbean.

To give to support those impacted by Hurricane Melissa, visit https://bit.ly/umcoridr and select "IDR - Hurricane Melissa" when asked to choose your preferred gift designation.

“But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name,
will teach you everything and remind you of all that I have said to you.” — John 14:26 📖

Jesus promised that we would never be left alone.
The Holy Spirit—our Advocate, Comforter and Guide—continues to teach us, shape us and remind us of everything Jesus has spoken in love.

💭 As you head into the weekend, where do you sense the Spirit guiding or comforting you?

Hymns often express heartfelt prayers. "Spirit of the Living God" (United Methodist Hymnal #393) is one example.

🎶"Spirit of the living God,
fall afresh on me.
Melt me, mold me, fill me, use me."🎹

This song's simplicity and sincere lyrics helped it become some popular that it outpaced the recognition of its composer, Daniel Iverson. The author was recognized after the song had already been published several times.

💭 How do you feel the Spirit is molding you this week?

Today we celebrate the Ascension of our Lord! Let us pray:
Almighty God, your only Son was taken into the heavens and in your presence intercedes for us. Receive us and our prayers for all the world, and in the end bring everything into your glory, through Jesus Christ, our Sovereign and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.
